    Default Prenuptial Agreement

Did a search on this but couldn't find any relevant threads.

Anyone here who had a prenuptial agreement before getting married?

Someone was telling me that if he were to get married he'd want a prenuptial agreement stating that the assets will be split into half between himself and his wife, and he wouldn't want to pay any ailmony to his wife.

How common is this prenuptial agreement? And how should the terms be like so that it is fair for us ladies?

    All comments will be appreciated!

I agree with Shanney that prenups are not enforceable in Singapore. Probably only in very rare cases if you are some big shots/celebrity.

I do understand the need to communicate certain issues across in a clear and firm standing on non-negotiable grounds before both parties decide to marry.

Maybe you want to consider doing up a betrothal agreement?

This is what me and my fiance has. And we both agree and sign on the list. What I did was I listed down some of the things that are non-negotiables for me. I need him to agree, otherwise I will not consider marrying.

Eg. 'Do not stop me from buying skincare products' on my list.

    and his list would be:

Eg. 'Ok only if it's not more than $500 per month on your personal skincare'.

Eventually if I spend $600 per month on skincare, I suppose we still cannot bring our case to the courts as it's non-enforceable. But it's good to list down such things and have some deep discussion before marriage.

The above illustration on skincare is just an example (not meant to be insulting or corny).

but what would be the differences between a prenup agreement and betrothal agreement?

sassification: yea i thought it was an issue with trust too! sounds like that couple already expected that they will end up in a divorce! /:

A betrothal agreement is totally informal document just between the both of you.

A prenuptial agreement is a formal, legal binding contract and may involve lawyer(s).

pre-nup is probably common in states amongst hollywood stars or rich people.

but if i remember correctly, it's not recognised in singapore. not such thing as don't want to give alimony, the law in singapore protects us more than the men.

Pre-nups are not recognisable in Spore. I've checked already.
