for my ROM i receives some gifts like jewellery box, wine glass(fboth frm precious moment), coffee maker, ear rings, photo frame and album and of coz some ang baos.. red wines.
i personally prefer the ang baos and vouchers. so that we can get what we want ourselves instead of getting repeated or impractical stuff. luckily i didnt receive repeated items. i love wines so red wine and wine glasses is good.
i wonder what other brides prefer... ^_^
I just ROM-ed recently.. and i received lots of precious moments stuff... Doormats, wedding album, photoframe, etc... I received quite a no. of angpows too amounting to around $1K...I personally prefer vouchers or angpows as they are more practical and we can buy the stuff that we like or are more useful...
i prefer $$$. At least we can offset the ROM reception.![]()
for my ROM, i recieved mostly are angpows.
more practical.

For our Rom in January, we received a lot of Precious Moments ornaments and photo frames, others were a pair of couple's T-shirt, night gown (lingerie) ,wedding cake cutting knife, gift vouchers and others. And of course most of the angpows came from relatives. Angpows are practical as it helped to cover part of our costs. Vouchers landed us in after wedding shopping spree(well, we got quite a large amount), the experience was great! I thought the cake cutting knife was great too as the couple can use it for their actual wedding. Otherwise, the night gown could be a possible choice. This can counter the fear of being too bride oriented. Well, though it may be worn on the bride but really, it is the groom who really enjoys it.![]()

However, if the couple is the conservative type, do refrain from this. Afterall, it is just ROM and not customary wedding yet. Hope that helps.

My rom was held at a hotel tea reception, & i recieved ang pows from everyone except 2 frens, one gave me a nice pewter scroll cover with a stand to keep my rom cert in, the other gave me a precious moments cup set (the price tag was there, $19.90) & she brought her bf along. Gifts are a nice gesture but u can never go wrong with ang pows.![]()
Personally, i would prefer cash or vouchers. Or just ask the couple what they want. Better then buying something that they already have or don't like. They may end up recycling the gift.
For my ROM, I received mostly ang pows from my guests except for two frens who gave me photo frame and lingerie. I quite like the lingerie in fact, very pretty, at least i can use it everyday.. as for the photo frame, it is still sitting in my cupboard, untouched. I think practicality is very important if u want to give a gift during ROM. Of course, ang pows are still the best!
I *** invite alot of friends but I do hope people will give ang paos.![]()
For my upcoming ROM, I'm thinking of inviting friends only (and my own family of course).
Not sure what they would give (if they do give something).![]()
I would prefer more of practical stuff like cash and vouchers, cos of my tight budget. Don't mind jewellery though. :wow:
Photo frames and such are ok too, but not top on my list right now.
if we were to give ang paos, what is the acceptable range? my friend is ROMing soon but she didn't invite me so i just thought of giving something as a gesture
Ang paos will be the best. Some of the gifts may look nice or seems useful to you, but not for the couple. Just my humble opinion.![]()
