it's adat to tandakan the bride is dara (virgin) and unmarried. up to indiviudal. but some old ladies may take it the wrong way if there's no sirih dara. is your husband to be side traditional? if not ***, can do away with it.

anyway sirih dara is not ex. bunga paha and gubahan also, unless you go for the expensive ones la..

=) I am new to this website and posting thingy.. It looks fun to share and exchange opinion on a forum. Like they say a few heads are better than 1! So here is my side of the story!

I am getting married this April. He proposed during my birthday in January this year. So far I've locked down the decor,make-andam and caterers! We have a small barget of $15k and is hoping we get everything done within that budget and if possible lower! It looks tough but I'm sure we can do it! We are doing a one day reception for my side only, normal void deck jemputan. He's not local so we save a lot as well.

I saw the 50K budget in one of the thread! I salute you guys! I can't even save that much! =) Anyways, I haven't got a lot of time to plan in this short notice. We are still looking at:

1) invite cards
2) dj
3) cameraman
4) kompang
5) video
6) Hantaran (gift exchange!)
7) Sireh dara/Bunga paha/ Inai!

And we're done!!! So I would appreciate if I can get a contact or 2 from you guys and I am very2 happy to help should you guys have questions! =)

hey there midnightgale! I think it depends on your better half on how he wants to propose and whichever way he is comfy with. I heard stories where they will start sweating, trippin on their words and literally blank out! We wouldnt want that do we?! Not ery romantic. I've heard of guys who literally say let get married and present the ring like they present movie stubs to go to the movies. Then again it should be a surprise, and being men, they cant read mind eventhough we hint like crazy.. hahahaha...

As for mine.. This was what happen. My fiance talk me into choosing my ring. I know.. I knoww... cannot! Must be surprise! But he insisted cause if it is gonna be an investment, I better like it, which make sense. I dowan to end up having to pretend I like the ring when I dun. So we choose the design, the cut, the size... and he got it custom-made for me according to my specification. When the ring was ready, I was so excited~!!!! I could only imagine how it looks like cause seeing is believing! But he say must wait!

So I waited and waited! For a month! He finally proposed on one knee on my birthday. Before I knew it, we're planning for this wedding in Apr. I've nvr dreamt this day would come.. but it did and I'm very happy~!

So enough of me.. Share yours please!

Do you guys know whether its necessary to have the bunga paha and sireh dara? Cause my mum dont really mind. She said dont waste money on all these.

where's a good place for a getaway?

i want to go to seoul badly but it'll be winter in kimchiland then so we're moving our honeymoon to april-may seoul so i can enjoy my cherry blossoms.

so i'm wondering if you girls have any good suggestions for like a post-wedding getaway for like over the weekend maybe? (i refuse to call it honeymoon if it's not seoul )

As for me, I'm not engaged, but I'm waiting for a BTO flat. I was planning to save 10-15k for a middle size wedding, but I'm not sure if that will be enough.

Anyway, I don't have anything proper to contribute. Just wanted to say that I love it that this thread exists!

Well as for me, me and my fiance got engaged on October 2007. That was like a year plus back. We'll be tying our knots on the February 2010. It will be like 11 mths away from now. As of today, we've cleared out a few important things like:

Mak Andam + Studio photoshoot: RH Bridal
Catering
Cameraman: Shooterz Unlimited
DJ
Wedding Cake
Deco: Decorama
Kompang + Kuda Kepang + Bus

Some people might call us kiasu but errrrr.. better be safe than sorry? hehehehe. Well, we have started to buy our hantarans gift each mth. So one mth, we'll cleared out 1 hantaran gift. This way, we could save a lot than buying last min.
So right now, we're only left with 3 hantaran gifts to buy. Fast eh?

As estimated, for my side, i think my total expenses is around 18k. I wanted a simple affair but with elegance.

For HDB, we have decided to put on hold first and stay with my parents so i don't have to think that much. =)

mine's in 7 mths time (minus 2-3 days)

i've booked
catering: pu3
bridal makeup: rh bridal - kak maslinda
venue: gallery @fort canning - which is really awesome cos we can book wayyy ahead and not wait til 3 mths before date and they allow us usage of PA system, so don't really need a dj, just a notebook and playlist of songs uploaded / cds for backup.
decor: the wedding chateau (decor theme: cherry blossoms)
dulang: la noce colletzion

left to get one more dulang stuff each.

so the primary prep stuff is done. left secondary issues like cakes, cards, transport to ferry guests from mrt station to fort canning park. oh god did i miss anything out? lol

my unofficial wedding planner is actually corzzgal who has helped me with options for bridal makeup artiste, catering and dulang decor. she really knows her stuff !
so yeah.

oh if you see anything i've missed out for preps please tell me cos i'm a bit of a mess really.
