"Guo Da Li" normally takes place when you wedding is nearer. You need to get someone to pick an auspicious date for this "Guo Da Li" day.
On "Guo Da Li", the groom's side will get a relative to help him to deliver the stuff to your house which includes the drowy and such.
It depend on what the bride's family ask for.
Thats all I know and HTH!![]()

Suggest you bring your husband-to-be, and both your mothers to the shop selling Gua Da Li stuff and ask the vendor. The vendor will teach you what to do and what to buy.
The reason why all of you should go down together is because everyone has different ideas of how it should be - even among people of the same dialect! So to avoid any future dispute, it's better that you all go down, consult with the vendor and agree on what should be done, and get it settled once and for all.
oh thanks.. Do you know where is the shop located??Originally Posted by chocob

i also not very sure but in case if teochew requires the wooden clog etc or this is part of items given by yr parents, NEVER NEVER NEVER buy mini ones. must buy ACTUAL human size. u rather dont buy than to buy the mini ones. but dont know why the chinatown etc selling the mini ones maybe its cute.
my mum went to the one at bukit timah to buy my dowry. expensive but we know the uncle so he wont anyhow ask us to buy things. just remember when u go to places like Chinatown, bear in mind that they will ask u to buy a lot of things, some of them unnecessary
basically i think they will have some sweets or chinese candies kind bring to yr house and yr parents are supposed to divide them and return the portion back to them. like my blur mum, return one packet of another candy instead of 1/2 of each packet (2 types). the candy is like those with roasted sesame seeds etc.
and remember to give the person who come to yr house, angbao. as for stuffs to get, u guys have to meet up and DISCUSS. not give what u think they want. ASK is the key point. they also need to know what u gals want for dowry
im teochew and my wedding is in dec...this sat im going to bukit timah to order the 'xi tang' for GDL...my parents ask us to cut down alot of things which is unneccessary...hehe...just get those important stuffs, going to those shops to check it out...
anyway, just to gossip, my hb side also teochew, but i dont have si dian jin, because my in laws are saying they dont have money and 'expect' us to buy ourselves, so i decide not to buy and keep the cash.
my mum asked them for red packet instead for the 4 dian jin. however the grandma is like 'pack too little=too little, pack too much=too much. very difficult to judge' so she went to buy the 4dian jin. very old model.......................... somemore one auntie bring her to buy. think i will just keep them instead of wearing them.
im hakka and my SO is teochew... should which tradition should i follow?
actually i also not very sure...
me hokkien, FH teochew...
help anyone?
