I never been a bridesmaid before coz im married but i had been jiemei twice. and the duties are abt the same.
First of all, check is you are given a bridesmaid dress. If not, check what is the color theme and start looking for a dress for the day and for the night.
On the actual day, your duty is to follow the bride whenever she goes. Help her to change and help her carry her heavy and long Tail maybe her handphone as well. Remind her all the thing need to bring to the hotel are all brought along.
If on the actual day, they need to go for an outdoor shooting, remind the bride to bring along umbrella incase it rains and tissue/makeup kit incase she sweat alot.
For the dinner part, you have to follow her for the whole night. When she leave her table to go to change you also have to leave your table and follow her to her room to help her change. If her evening gown have long tail, you might need to follow her from table to table during the photograph session.

in addition to jie qing...
- before the wedding : have to help out in the preparation part...
- for the traditional customary wedding i.e. when the groom comes to fetch the bride : have to prepare to "block" the groom and his "brothers" at the door..
this is when we gals make them perform tasks before they can meet the bride...
- for the church and dinner wedding : have to ensure that everything is ready... such as the decoration, the music, the tables, the money box, etc etc etc...
for the reply girls!
another query i have is , what is the difference between a bridesmaid and an ah-yi? i presume the duties should be around the same?![]()
Abit different.
Bridesmaid is the only person to help in carrying the tail. And must be single. Stick to the bride most of the time even at the dinner.
Ah Yi, can be married. And some only need to help during the day and at the dinner they can just rest and relax or maybe help at the reception.
hi.. does the bride always provide e bridesmaid dress?
private arrangement between the bride and the bridesmaid..
but in most cases i think it is provided by the bride..
i have a number of friends whose dresses were not provided by the bride also...
In my experience, few brides provide outfit. Most provide color theme and an ang pow (either from gate-crashing or additional on top of gate crashing).
gee.. i must be the lucky one then..
i had a dress, ang pow.. and a bouquet of flowers...![]()
i prefer the yellow one (yahoo auction)...
the FOH one kind of emphasize the bottom cause of the "ruffles"...
can carry off the FOH one only if you dont have big bottoms..![]()
I think the sage green one from fredericks is more suitable for bridesmaid. It's classier!
hi ladies, thanks for your opinions!! You think Asians who are not as tanned as the model can carry off the mint green colour? Don't wish to look washed out...

I love both styles, they're very pretty.
I like BCBG dresses but not sure if you're ok with that plunging neckline. However the style of the dress may be safer for your figure.
As for the FOH dress - Nylon can stretch and may be better / more flexible fit than the chiffon of BCBG.
Color is tricky. IMO both light green and yellow can wash a tan out. Really not sure which is a safer color!
But I heard from a MUA once, if the clothes washes you out, just put on more MU :p
