i read some in cosmopolitan yrs ago, will reconstruct the story as best as i can remember:

He scattered rose petals all over the house and lit candles, and also placed red heart shaped balloons leading from the main door into my room. On the first ballon he stuck a note with a needle, indicating "pop me!".

Inside each of the balloon he wrote a note about our romantic times together. At the very last balloon, the note dropped out, saying: will you marry me?, then, i heard him behind me and there he was on bended knee, flowers in one hand and ring in the other"

Another story, can't remember the exact details, but the bf sent her a lovely gown and limo to pick her up out of the blue. She was given a "clue", and it was like a treasure hunt, where she would go to the area (e.g the diners) say the "magic password" to the waiter/ person and get a little present and another clue to the next location. Each of the present represented something she had said or they have done. Eventually it lead her to the final "clue", a posh restaurant where he was waiting for her. There, he proposed to her. i love this, it's so sweet and fun!

I actually planed for a treasure hunt thingie, with clues and answers as a surprise gift as a guy.
But.....I couldn't even get him to meet me on the 1st place for clues!
    Sigh Singaporean men......

heh, i just got proposed to yesterday.

i think nowadays, most singaporean men don't bother with formal proposal and the ring anymore.
they'll just say "want to apply for flat?"

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

just to share what happened last night.
if anyone shivers cos it's too mushy, let me know and i will delete it.

this monday, when he sent me to work, i asked if he's free this week and if i could ask him out for dinner and he said ok.
on tuesday, he told me to "wear nice nice" for the dinner and i guess it's THE time.

he refused to tell me where we were going for dinner.
when he came to fetch me at 7pm, he was wearing shirt and tie and even brought along his jacket suit.

we went to blu restaurant at shangri-la hotel.

the restaurant was having some food festival thing, so there's only 1 set meal with a choice of main course (beef or lamb).
the dishes have very sophisticated names for a simple person like me.
every dish (including dessert) has a wine to go with and i was like, already dizzy when i'm halfway through the soup.

after meal, he suggested that we visit the balcony and i saw him clenching his fist when we walk towards the door.
we walked to the end of the balcony and enjoyed the breeze for a little while before deciding to head back to the restaurant to get some coffee.

when we did a U-turn, he suddenly grab me tightly and then kneel down on one knee and asked if i could let him take care of me for the rest of our lives, and if i would marry him.
trying to act hard to get, i asked "where are the flowers?"
he said "don't have, want (me) or not?"

there were some people sitting at the other end of the balcony and they were already cheering at him.
so i said "ok" and heard someone said "good girl!"

    then we kissed.
then the captain/manager brought me a bunch of roses.

when we left the balcony, everyone there clapped.

I didn't get a fancy proposal. Just .. "let's get married baby" from my sweetie while we were bumming on the couch in the living room. some of you might say it's boring but I don't care about that. What matters most is that he was comfortable enough to know that he didn't need to do anything special to win my heart. Him being just him was enough for me.

Anyhow .. while I was younger & thinking of the ways I'd like to be proposed to, I knew i didn't want a public kinda of thing. I would be tooo embarassed! Besides, I think it's cheating when a guy proposes in front of so many people. That's like giving the girl pressure to say Yes. No fair! All I wanted was a simple, private , sincere proposal & a nice big fat ring!
