i am so glad to see all these posts. i am turning 26 this year and i have been with my SO for 7 years. everyone around me thinks that it is high time we think about settling down. my close friends thinks its weird that i have no intention to get hitched in the short term. short term would mean in the next 2 to 3 years. some asked whether is it because i am not ready or is it maybe he is not the one. *shrugs* i personally never really sat down and think real hard about it. but i figured that we are both happy with how we are now, we should just be happy together!

My FH proposed to me one day when we were at his place, he took out his own ring and slipped it on my finger and asked if I would marry him. He was just so sweet and funny I couldnt stop laughing.
Then he said he would do it again properly when he buys a real engagement ring

It still brings a tingle to my heart everytime I recall it. Good thing is girlfriends got it recorded down on video!

It was supposed to be a gals outing at Ju Shin Jung turned out to be a planned proposal in disguise.

We gals finished our first round of grill while waiting for one of my gf to arrive and was idling. Out of nowhere, a bunny mascot appear at the window at my left. GF nudged me for attention and soon I was teasing the mascot with my "virtual" punching fists thinking it was some hoax or campaign. (I did thought it was some promo for energiser batteries. Hahaha)

It only came to me it was a proposal when the mascot (he was drenched with sweat inside the costume) flashed out a ring box. I could tell you I was utterly overwhelmed with joy and TOUCHED to tears. The whole restaurant was appaulding :$. and Of course, I said YES to his proposal.

The bunny mascot means a lot as when we were officially as a couple, i labelled us as bunnies. SO was so creative to think of this idea. ROMing next year April

I always taunted my SO for not proposing to me, even though we have paid deposits for the wedding dinner, the package and even got ourselves our love nest. His sister asked me if he proposed and I looked at her and said, why don't you ask your brother?

The proposal finally came on our 4th anniversary. We were supposed to have dinner at Hotel Miramar's Jap Restaurant. I thought that would be great, my last buffet before I go on a diet. When I met up with him, he told me that we were going to Raffles City instead, and dinner would be expensive...

We ended up at Equinox, with a window view that overlooks the city of Singapore. It was great, though the food could have been better. Towards the end of the dinner, he kept asking if I wanted to go to the ladies and rattled on about the distance from our table to the toilet and where it was located. When I told him firmly that no, I don't need to use the ladies, he practically dashed his way out, mumbling that he needed to go to the gents.

He reappeared mins later with a bouquet of roses, asking me if I would marry him. He did it in such a hurried and funny manner, I wasn't too sure if I should laugh or cry at his proposal. Later the Captain came with a plate and a cake, with words: Will you marry me? Of course I said yes, although I thought the proposal could have been done better!

I didn't tell my SO, but I sort of expected that during the dinner. The lady at the Equinox reception gave me a funny and cheeky look when SO told her we had a reserved table under his name. *** wanna do the I knew what was going to happen thingy with SO, just glad that at least he proposed!

Akaysha, i can fully understand your frustco. My SO *** havent propose despite the fact that we have booked our bridal package. He is *** waiting for the house hunting to be finalised. We have been trying balloting for 2 years but no luck.

I know must book Wedding dinner in advance, but no propsals, no dates how to book!? My SO is just someone who cannot do things concurrently. Everything must in step 1, 2 ,3. Frustrating!!

I too, had a wonderful surprise on the day that he proposed... And apparently, I was the only one who's kept in the dark.

It was 2 days after my birthday actually. I didn't have any birthday celebration, because I was out for a roadshow and had to work till pretty late (11pm). So SO brought me out for a nice dinner at a turkish restaurant. There was supposed to be a belly dance performance that's to start at 9pm. So I sat there leisurely, after my dinner, waiting for the performance. SO was there, and kept looking at the watch. I was quite puzzled... coz I didnt know that he's in a hurry... In the end we left after the first session (~9.30pm), because SO said that the music made him giddy...

So we left, and SO says he wants to walk along the Singapore River... We were at One Fullerton and on the right, its the river already, but SO wants to go to the other side (boat quay area). Puzzled, but I still agreed to walk to the other end (I was tired and sleepy and actually wanted to go home and zzz).

So when we are just outside the IndoChine area, there was a tourist who came to ask me what's the direction to Lau Pa Sat. I answered and pointed... and was wondering why SO stood there and kept quiet. Usually he's the one who will answer first... Then the tourist asked again, where... So i pointed again and this time, I saw the lights that lighted up in the middle of the river.. It was a board that says "Marry Me, <my name>". His friends were holding up the board with the LED bulbs, and they were stationed on the river taxi. It was only then that I realised what's happening...

SO turned me around and started reciting a poem to me.. At the same time, his helpers came with flowers to put in his hands, and the "paparazzi" started their flash lights... Then the kneeling part came and the ring came out... (SO was so nervous that he had problems finding the ring box from his bag ).

And for the remaining, its the same.. I said yes, and we had a tour round the SIngapore River on the river taxi. Then we drank ourselves silly at Brewerkz for the post celebration...

Lovely surprise It's quite unlike SO to plan for such a proposal. Normally he is the no frills type of person. Only downside is that the pictures didn't turn out very clear... The paparazzi team skills must improve.. keke

I actually think a lot of guys do make the effort when it comes to proposing. Unfortunately just not most Singaporean guys.....

Ya. Agree with babyflite. Singaporean guys tend to be more reserved when it comes to proposing. They do shy acts like proposing in quieter areas.

DreamA and linggy, yah, it was a pleasant surprise... especially when SO told me that he made the 'marry me' board with LED bulbs that he bought and inserted into the board. On the board, you can see the lines that they draw to align the bulbs to form into letters and at the back of the board, there are numerous wirings, and capacitors or transistors (my physics is bad...). It sure looks like a complicated science project.

Zicon How would you like to be proposed?

Just thought of this topic along my way to work this morning....
Perhaps we can share our dream proposal by our "the other half"? And how you wished it will turn out the way you wished to be......

Hope you dun me sharing my proposal.

My proposal was a whole day affair : ) he invited me out on a big date on the pretext of celebrating our anniversary and v day. Prior to the date, he sent me an invite with the schedule, however putting location a, b, c etc instead of the actual location to hype up the suspense.
On that day itself, he brought me out for my favourite breakfast before heading out to the marina where he rented a boat to take me out on a spin. this is to copy the 1st v day we celebrated 7 years ago and i was touched that he rem : )
After lunch, he made me close my eyes til we reached the next destination.. Rasa Sentosa resort..
He took alot of effort in coordinating this as he took half day the day earlier without me suspecting to arrange the room.. when i walked in there was our song playing in the background, potpurri on the sofa, my Favourite flowers sitting in front of a gigantic card... needless to say, i was touched.. but no tears though : )

Dinner time, he took me to..... Jumbo seafood restaurant at stadium waterfront. surprised? i was too, i expected the location as it was the first place we kissed but the restaurant was a surprise, but it ended up well as we had good food... : )
As it was drizzling lightly, there was not many pple about when he asked me for a walk to the bridge where we first kissed afterwhich we went to the side and when i was looking away, he suddenly asked me if there were any stars, which i replied no as it was raining.. and he replied " but i see 3 in a row" and held up a ring against the sky.
He then continued to say that the saleslady told him that the ring is unique and one of the kind and told me that he feels the same way about me and then went down on his knees to ask him to marry me.. i gave him a scare when i said see first (as we had a big fight the day before) but after 2 mins, replied yes and he slipped it on my finger. And after that, he mentioned that he proposed exactly at 8pm so that our proposal would have been 2nd Fev 2008 at 8pm.... yup the small things but i was touched nevertheless.

But thats not all.. when we went back to the hotel room, there was one more surprise for me!
He prepared another present! a box filled with goodies..
had the ring cert, a proposal note that he promise to love and take care of me forever, a brides, & home and living magazines so that we can start our preparations and oven mitts and aprons for the both of us and he said the sweetest thing about them "know you love to bake so i bought 2 mitts and aprons so that i can bake with you" i melted...

it may not be the most expensive or most romantic proposal but the thought that he took the effort and the time to think of how to propose and the fact that its my proposal makes it perfect to me.
