    Default Surprises for husband-to-be

    Hi cotters,

Anyone here knows where can I go for piano courses? I just want to learn 2 songs for my wedding dinner.

I plan to have a pleasant surprise for my husband-to-be at our wedding dinner. Although the dinner is not fixed yet & most probably will only be held late next year, but I want to have more time to master the skills on playing the 2 songs on piano. I have no music background, therefore I believe I'll need more time to learn.

Anyway, does anyone here have any suggestions on what songs to play on my special day? The 2 songs I'm having in mind are "Because You Love Me" by Celine Dion and "Yue (1) Ding (4), 约定" by 周惠 Zhou Hui.

Any other suggestions on what surprises can I give my husband-to-be, beside this piano performance?

    Thanks in advance.

    This is so sweet

Yamaha's a good choice since they have pop piano classes. Otherwise, you can also approach Cristofori, Kawai etc. depending on what you live.

Let me know if you live in the north-east area and needs a piano to practice on. I'll gladly let you practice on my piano for this worthy cause.

    Hi caden28,

Thanks for your offer. I think I may really need your help.

I'm still not sure whether am I up to it for this tough task, to learn piano when I have no music background. But I'll try my best. I want to give him a great surprise.

Anyway, any suggestions on the songs which I should use for this special surprise?

Pray for me that I will not make a fool of myself on that day, although I still have more than a year to prepare.

    Hi roxycurl_gal,

I don't think I want to break any glass in the ballroom or spoilt anyone's appetite during that night, because my singing ability is really very bad.

    Hi ladies,

Any idea on which hotels will allow the use of piano during wedding dinners? I need the piano to be in the wedding ballroom, because I can't be playing the piano outside the ballroom while all my guests are eating in the ballroom.

Does you ladies think it is possible to get the hotel to arrange a big piano in the ballroom? Usually, hotels are using grand piano, therefore will take up a big space in the ballroom.

    Any advice on this?

Did you watch the Korean drama 'My Lovely Samsoon'? The guy played 'Somewhere over the Rainbow'. I have the scores for that version he played. It's quite easy.

Otherwise you might wanna choose to play songs of certain significance to the both of you.

Let me go through my scores tonight for some simple but nice ones.

You have to check with the hotels you are interested in. Coz it depends on the ballroom size, size of stage and number of tables you'll have. For example, I wanted the grand piano on the stage for mine at Fullerton's, but they couldn't do it because I have too many tables and they have no space to extend the stage to accomodate the piano. So it's really a combination of factors.

But I think most hotels will try to accomodate if there is space and a piano available.

    Hi caden28,

Thank you for your help. Really appreciate that you are willing to take up your time to look through your scores.

Anyway, I think one of the songs that I'll play shall be "Yue (1) Ding (4), 约定" by 周惠 Zhou Hui, because the lyrics are really very sweet & meaningful.

But I'm still keeping a lookout & asking around for my 2nd song. I hope to do something simple, light & sweet. "Lovers Concerto" is one of the songs in the list for my 2nd song.

But now most importantly is I must find a school/teacher to teach me all the basic. I think I'll make my teacher vomit blood or explode, because I'm too stupid.

Will there be an extra charge if I want to use the hotel's grand piano? Any idea how much will the extra charge for the grand piano be?

Do all the hotels in SIngapore have such grand piano?

just ask they will give the piano for free usually - i mean they are already earning big time from you - just book it early. I was with Swissotel Stamford & the piano was offered as part of the package if i wanted it.

I did not play the piano as my brother in law did that so too passe within the family about 2 years ago he did that. So i got a minus one & did Wind beneath my Wings by B. Midler (cannot spell Bette) - you can get someone to play for you as well if you want. Usually christian bookshops especially the one at Plaza Singapura Basement 2 has popular songs as minus ones.

Lovers Concerto is actually adapted from Menuett by Bach. It's quite a simple piece, the menuett I mean.

    I don't have Yue Ding

Most bigger and established hotels do have. If you want the grand piano, then during the negotiation, make sure you insist on having it FOC
