im not sure too. my guy's mum wears her rollie a few times annually and after 7 years its still in working condition.

    hmm..

quartz is good, but i heard once the battery leaks out or what..is equivalent to whole watch being damaged?

most of the expensive watches are auto...

anyway quartz is good as well..cheaper too lol.

did she wind it often? chances are when automatic watch is left to sit doing nothing, the grease inside etc might harden faster than the gears moving.

as for quartz watch, servicing or replacement of circuit board when there's battery leakage is about 300++. for high end watch, i think most guarantee 20yrs of parts availability.

its not really true that most expensive watches are automatic? because there can be expensive watches but its quartz. Guess thats when the brand and the materials being used (diamonds etc).

its just that those watch makers are very proud (the good way like pride in their work) of assembly the gears etc, to make it an automatic watch. Like breguet n some other watches, they purposely make the face translucent etc, to show the parts inside. its like an art or something unique? than showing diamonds or simple face? hehehe. there's a lot to learn abt automatic watch but i feel that the technology is mainly shown in men watch than ladies? because ladies cannot appreciate more than men?

for automatic watch i think they also recommend 2yrs? otherwise if u want to try luck etc, 4yrs also possible? they said very difficult to give time because of climate/how we take care of watch etc. normally cannot be too long as they scare the grease etc will harden and might damage the parts inside. wearing of the parts? the better way out is to service when its still running because it might be cheaper than later realised some errors with the parts and have to be serviced. esp if its old model and might have to fly to HQ for servicing because parts/service standard is higher over there. Then, it will be expensive.

i also don't think most expensive watches necessarily have to be automatic. that's especially the case for women's watches as sometimes they are too small to fit an auto movement in. but they still command high prices either because of the brand or the materials used.

yea i realised that automatic watches are also bigger in size to cater for the mechanism. so ladies automatic normally big size.
