Worth a read.. make sure it has e-ink, the ability to read under sunlight. Save batteries & eyesight.
Also make sure it can use open format etc.. so you are not stuck by the online book shop, but can use other sources (ahem torrent).
I read a lot at night and am looking for a LCD screen reader which has a backlight. Don't mind not having e-ink technology. Does anyone has any recommendation other than pocket pcs? I'm using a pocket pc now and it's going to die on me. Looking for something different now.
Kindle & Nook has reduced its prices! So if you arent keen on getting ipad, then its a good time to get either of those..
Hi,
still have any reviews on sony or kindle e-reader?
Is sony in singapore? Can i get it in Funan Mall?
Pls advise
I'm thinking of getting an Amazon Kindle, but it is not available for shipping to SG. A friend offered it get it for me from the US, but I'm not sure if I will be able to download books here. Arghhhhhhh. Any idea?
You can download books from Amazon to your Kindle, even in Singapore. If you buy the new generation one with 3G you can download directly to the Kindle using the 3G (no charge). You need to "bypass" their system by creating a US Amazon account specifically for your Kindle.
If not you can opt to download the books from the Amazon website to your pc and then upload them to your Kindle.
Amazon won't ship to Singapore but you can use VPOST who will give you a US address for them to ship to the US and then arrange for it to be shipped to Singapore.
That's how I got my Kindle, and I've been using it for the last 2 years plus (mine is the 2nd Generation one), and I've uploading books I downloaded from Amazon.

Hi, hope to bump up this old thread.
Any more reviews and recommendations? So we can't buy any of these brand readers in SG? Have to buy online?
Still thinking of getting the Nook....what's the wifi and 3g for? How to upload the books into the gadget?
I have the nook (2nd gen). I like! When you first set up your nook, you need wifi to connect to B&N website in order to link the nook to your B&N account. Have not tried purchasing ebooks from B&N store though.
Transfer of ebooks into nook is via USB connection.
Got the nook from B&N website using vPost.
I think iPad and Kindle are very good e-readers. At the same time, any products can be made as the nice e-readers as long as you can change the PDF files into ebooks. If you like, here is the solution (: flip book creator
I don't like to use Ipad as reader because the LED gives me headaches after a while.

just started using a kindle for the second week. Am enjoying it so far. no strain on the eyes with prolong reading, and indeed, carrying it is so much easier than lugging a thick book around.
I'm using iPad as my e-book. There's a app call 24 Reader. I use it to read Hong Kong chinese 八卦 magazines. LOL!
Saw some sites quite useful doing comparisons of the best e-book-reader. The kindle fire seems really nice.
