Notice put up by the management, informing customers that the spa will be close for the weekend.
SINGAPORE - First it closed its Ngee Ann City branch, five months after taking over True Spa's operations. Now Subtle Senses has closed its two remaining outlets - albeit, for the weekend.
Some customers, apparently, are waiting for Monday, to see if the closure is really just for two days.
A patron who was at the Cuppage Terrace outlet last Friday saw employees handing in their resignations.
"When I asked one of them, they said the parent company [HealthTrends Group] is taking over the management of Subtle Senses," she said, declining to be named.
Another customer who was at the Mosque Street outlet on Saturday found it "unusual" that the doors were locked at 10.05am, as the staff are usually there at 9.30am on weekends.
Ms Susan Choi said, "A contract massage staff was also waiting outside and after several calls and half an hour later she told me and several customers that Subtle Senses closed on Friday night."
The contract staff told another customer she had yet to receive her pay.
MediaCorp visited the outlets on Sunday and found a notice pasted on the shops' glass panels, stating that the "locations of Cuppage Terrace and Mosque Street [would] be closed over the weekend".
Ms Karen Tan, 30, was "shocked" to find the Cuppage outlet closed, as she had received a call from the spa just on Friday to confirm her appointment.
The teacher has used her S$3,000 package only once since she bought it last year from True Spa, which transferred its operations to Subtle Senses on April 25. She intends to file a claim with the Small Claims Tribunal and complain to the Consumers Association of Singapore.
Meanwhile, some customers at the outlets on Friday who learnt about the closure were able to redeem their remaining unused sessions for facial products.
In the meantime, The Spa, Beauty and Wellness Alliance is looking at ways to get its alliance members to assist Subtle Senses clients from Ngee Ann City to complete their unused packages.
- TODAY/rl
I just went down this afternoon...to Cuppage. ITS STILL CLOSED!!
any updates for today?
they tried to take over true spa customers
and now they are closed
so the customers get snowballed........
a few days ago i still came across some ad or something that they are offering some discounted or trial spa/facial services.
I am also a customer of True Spa. Feel so cheated...
They still called me up last Tue to confirm my appointment last Sat. Worse still they still allow me to make more appointments for Nov.
No wonder, when my friend called up to make appointment, they say can only open for Nov booking on 18 Oct 2010.
Anyone doing anything against them? I willing to support
maybe you can check with The Spa, Beauty and Wellness Alliance
Today Straits Times reported that the Subtle Senses have officially closed down...
Seems like getting back my $1.5K seems impossible now.
Based on the newspaper report, I am so suprised at the amount of money people spend on Spa packages. The amount I have spent seems so small comparing to theirs.
This is an outrage!
my package is like 1/2 finished only!
so is my mum and my aunt's package!
and we still have products that we have paid for and not collected.....
What should be done right now?![]()
I am a TS customer with a package which has been fully paid for yet only half used up! How can we claim the unused package?
Anyone who can help out in this? Thanks!
I'm a SS customer..... i got about 40 sessions left.
What can I do right now to get back the $$?? Can anyone advise???![]()
I wasn't in Singapore when Wax in the City closed down...
but it seems that there was a major fuss and the customers managed to get the attention of the SBWA?
wonder if Subtle Senses customers will be that fortunate to get a similar rescue package...
really sianz....

I'm also a SS customer.
i was at the spa for my appointment on 14th October.
Things were kind of messy but i never expect them to close down.. I even book my December appointment.
According to the news, the former CEO Gerald Lim step down as CEO on 15 October. What a coincident that the spa closed on 16 October??
I would never ever sign any packages again.. once bitten twice shy..

The so called rescue package is not rescuing anything..
Spa B come in to 'rescue' spa A victims (for free right?), then few months later Spa B low resources.. To recoup loss, they will make customers sign more packages, to pay for their existing resources and overhead.. Sounds like a ponzi scheme, which will eventually crumble.. I know it's meaningless to say all these here.
Seems that the governing sectors are not doing enough... If there's nothing that can be done to stop these unscrupulous business people from simply running away with the money at the 1st sign of trouble, we should all stop signing packages..
People cannot get back their money and thus chose to get 'adopted' by another spa.. then, they are not supposed to complain too much if their packages got downgraded, or service not as good as before as they are like 2nd rated citizens and the spa who took them in are doing it "out of goodwill".. But the victims DID pay for the packages, and have to end up suffering when those idiots take the money to we don't know where.
Wondering if this trend is common in other countries, or only here in Singapore.
Who can be more suay than me? I was one of the affected victims of WITC. Did whatever I could to get my money back, went to SCT to file for claim against WITC too. Being a TS member also, I took up the bailout eventually & converted all my TS package to under SS. During 1 of the treatment session, I was injured and now left with scars on my thigh... The talks between me n the manager never worked out n before I could lodge a complaint with case to get a mediator, they closed down...
To add salt on my wound, I am still paying for the installment every month... I've decided to give up becoz the govt has never once stand on the consumers' side... I can only console myself by thinking that money lost can be earned back again, I'll *** treat it as I'm 'doing good deeds' paying off the installments every month. The greater power above will be able to see and those who cheat will eventually get what they deserve...
So ladies, try whatever u can, but incase they don't work out, look on the bright side n treat it as a valuable lesson...
May loads of good luck be with u girls!
