i have the same skin type too, oily but dehydrated skin. The lady at Shiseido was even telling me that my surface was terribly dry because it was flaking all over though I have oil secretions. She says I can still use normal moisturiser for oily skin but oil free but yet not for oil control. She says can use lightweight hydrating moisturiser for oily skin but don't use those oil control one cause it will make the problem worse.
She also mentioned that the sunblock that I use is too drying and too high in spf index and may risk clogging.
I use everything Avene, even sunblock, i am using the tinted one, SPF50 Very High Protection Cream. so far so good... i dont even put on powder these days, skin has become less oily n calming though...
Well for me, all along i thought i had combi skin, but once I used any products for oily skin, it would make my skin super super dry and taut. I remember there was once I couldn't even smile without my whole face crinkling up *shudders*
So yeah I suppose that's one way to know that your skin is lacking in water, even though it seems oily on the outside.
Hope it helps!
(:
Oh forgotten to mention that I am also using hyaluronic acid serums as well. A dollop of this serum mixed with 1 or 2 drops of oils patted onto very damp skin.
Hyaluronic acid has the capability to hold moisture many times its own weight, hence will benefit moisture-depleted skins. I found that it helps whatever oils I am using to sink in better.
Yeah I've heard that some people are put off by the slight chicken fat smell of emu oil. There are many sources of emu oil and some has no smell at all. I am using one which has therapeutic essential oils added, hence I don't get the chicken fat smell at all.
Just received some cold-pressed camellia oil and chardonnay grapeseed oil. Will be trying those out.
Huili,
Is this Avene sunblock heavy or oily feeling?
Thanks.
Jojoba oil is very close to human sebum in composition, hence it can help unclog pores. I personally have not tried it but I know of people who are sensitive to it. There are people who asolutely love it as well.
Jojoba oil is technically a liquid wax which contributes to it very long shelf life.
As with all oils, use sparingly.
avene sunblock, depending on which one you are referring to, the cream based ones are more heavier and oily. the emulsions one are lighter. The spray is the lightest of all.
ok great , i need these advise.
My prob is, i use to fly around, thus my skin is very dehydrated, exp in winter places but after a few days i will have to fly back to tropic areas, its only till now, when i quit, my skin's got all oily,
i tried oil control foundations it doesnt seems to help, trying some samples of some hydrating gel from SASA, but its not really working, tried loreal oil control, also not working.
now i am interested to try avene, heard its recommended widely..?
which are the products i should try? they have moisturiser / make up base? and sunblock?
just wondering, sunblock can double up as make up base? whats the exact purpose of make up base..... or can i use a make up base with SPF?
Hi Chiaberry,
which brand of Jojoba oil will you recommend?
I am also thinking of DHC's pure Olive oil... wonder which one is better?
I had tried Vit C serum before, but it broke me up!! so I dont dare to try now
Dada_Love, i suspect you may have oily but yet dehydrated skin that's why it is still very oily. I suggest you don't use too much oil control products as it will only make it more oily. You should use a lightweight moisturiser that is oil free. Perhaps you can use a oil control moisturiser in day time to help with the make up but you will need to use a hydrating moisturiser at night. Perhaps you can try biotherm biopur mattifying moisturiser in day time, it acts as a good make up base for oily skin too and then biotherm aquasource ultra cool hydrating gel in night time. Or you can actually try shiseido's pureness mattifying fluid for day time and then moisturising gel cream for night use.
For avene, I find their oil control products so so? You may want to try avene moisturising lotion as a lightweight and oily free moisturiser for your skin. I think you need to balance up your hydration level too since you mentioned it was previously dehydrated.
ririan, the commonly raved one is desert of essence jojoba oil which can be found from Nature's Farm.
biotherm's mattifying moisturiser..... that is a make up base as well? i know biotherm has this yellow make up base with spf for dark eye rings.. but that doesnt control oil isnt it....
which is better biotherm or the shishedo? how much's each?
I second the hyaluronic acid to help lock in the moisture. I put in one drop of jojoba oil or rosehip oil. The rosehip oil is especially good for the neck to prevent sagging and soften the "rings". It helps to heal scars but must be used sparingly if you are breakout prone. Camellia oil is lighter than rosehip oil and less likely to aggravate breakouts but not readily available in Singapore. Some camellia oils have additives (the commercial brand sold by Goldport Beauty), you have to check that you are buying pure camellia oil if that's what you want.
The refined emu oils have no smell and colour but they have lesser healing properties. The unrefined ones are more effective because more of the active nutrients are preserved, except you have to put up with the smell.
it is a moisturiser with spf for oily skin, to mattify the skin, can also act as make up base. No it's not the make up base series, those are not able to control oil.
I saw good reviews for pureness range in MUA, i only use the pureness gel cream before because I have dehydrated skin and I can't use the mattifying fluid. If you have very oily skin, then you should use the mattifying fluid. I think it's $50 for shiseido one and then 55 for biotherm biopur.
Yes, i have oily, dehydrated and worse, sensitive skin.
Have tried many many products. when they dont work, move to new products. Such a vicious cycle and on hand already have lotsa lotsa products.
Have tried avene and dermalogica for a longer term but the sensitivity of the cheeks still exist. They are still reddish.
If i wander off to new brands, unsuitable products will cause reddish bumps and blotchiness...
For hyaluronic acid, i have tried skinceuticals b5 gel and so disappointed that it did not work on me despite very very good raves.
instead it left my skin left.
i am also using miraclear anti-comedone to dissolve the clogs but do not see much effects after some time.
Aiming to try the LPR effaclar K but worried that it may aggravate skin.
Thanks chiaberry.
I bought the hyaluronic acid serums and oils from a reputable online vendor from the USA that sells very good quality 100% pure oils.
Have learnt to be skeptical towards commercial brands, unless I get to read their ingredients lists first.![]()
