It is using SHA twice a day that is too rich, not the vit c.
Comparatively, aloe vera is less "rich" than SHA and would be less problematic if you want to use twice a day.
Your night routine of SHA+PHA+Tretinoin is a little... odd. But if that is what your doc tells you to do.![]()
IMO you don't need to use SHA at night either. Not sure about PHA (? which product is that). Tretinoin on its own is good enough. Use consistently. You can ask your doc to increase the % of tretinoin if you can tolerate the current strength. You have to titrate for yourself depending on how your skin reacts. If you want faster results, increase the % so that you peel a little but not too much and not to the point of getting red skin or a lot of pimples popping up. The increase should be gradual eg use higher strength alternate days first and gradually increase to daily. When your skin is stable, you switch back down to the lower strength to maintain. If you are currently purging a lot, then stick with current strength and frequency. Mild peeling and purging helps your skin to renew itself faster and speeds up the scar healing. But if your scars are old and deep, you may not notice the improvement for a while. Be diligent with the sunblock. It helps the process greatly.
Good luck!
PHA - Polyhydroxy Acid? Gluconolactone?
If PHA = polyhydroxy acid, I think it doesn't add a lot to the regime. Tretinoin plus sunscreen plus vit C is already a good combination. Should work over the medium to long term. Don't overload skin with too many products. Poor skin can only handle a few familiar products at one time. Otherwise getting mixed signals, the skin cells may decide enough is enough and voila break outs....bumps......their way of telling you that they are not happy with the way you are treating them.
Thanks for the advice peeps..
By right, night is toner, PHA(yes I think its polyhydroxy acid), Benzoyl Peroxide, follow by tretinoin 0.025%+flucinolone, as told by doc, but because it was real dry for me, even after several months, my skin was still peeling, that it why I needed some moisturizing stuff. Do you think I could just add in aloe gel after toner?
And this tretinoin 0.025%+flucinolone only for night use, so morning is SHA+ascorbic, follow by Benzoyl Peroxide, then my sunscreen.. You think that's ok?
yoshimi:
Why don't you stop using benzoyl peroxide? It's not necessary if you are on tretinoin 0.025%. More reasons for not using it:
- it cancels out the effect of vitamin C
- it has a tendency to darken the skin around the spots
If you are still peeling after several months, you could consider dropping down the frequency of the tretinoin to alternate days. You would still get the benefits but with lesser side effects.
You don't need the toner. The lesser stuff you apply before the tretinoin the better. Aloe gel isn't much of a moisturiser. You can consider jojoba oil or camellia oil or tamanu oil from the same seller as the niacinamide discussed previously. One or two drops rubbed between the palms of your hands and applied by patting gently on your skin. Leave one hour gap after applying tretinoin before layering on other products. Of the above, tamanu has the best "healing" properties for scars but the smell is a little strong and "earthy". The others are odourless.

You could try using DR secrets skinlight + skinrecon, in a combination, this heals and fades your scars away. It worked for me just one month after using, I got pictures if you wish to see. PM me for more details if interested.
tks gal...as differin its alright for me ...no purging ..as told by the skin doc differin is very mild ...maybe *** the case i no purging ..and i like cos is a gel form...btw what the interval ...after apply the vit c if i want to apply the the mixture of gluco and niacin amide, ..and so far is the olay effective. .as you per mention on your earlier post... tks gal and happy new year ..
If your scarring if keloid/hypertrophic, and its red, then your best bet would be to use silicone gel (dermatix) or silicone sheets (cica-care) (whereby gels are prob easier to apply on then sheets).
If its really raised, apparently using corticosteriod cream could help, since corticosteroids apparently could cause skin thinning, so good since your skin is raised
vit E either by consumption / topical application
and apparently Hirudoid, its cheap and its indications is for treatment of scars, but how it works, I am honestly not sure
p.s(silicone gel could be really expensive in sg....have to search for cheaper alternatives online....)
