Hello, this is my first time in this site, and i just want to share with everyone my horrible experience at Modern beauty and warn everyone NOT to go there!
Modern Beauty have a few branches and they are from HK , I went to the one at Tras street.
They did not act in the best interest of me as the customer, and did not fully disclose the necessary information to me to make a decision on the services. I do not approve of their sales tactic of getting the customer to spend more by not being totally transparent of the cost of the full services. I felt at the time that I was coerced into signing a package that I would not have prepared to spend if I was told how much it cost in the beginning.
Essentialy they kept persuading me to purchase more and more of the service even though I told them repeatedly that I only wanted to try out the service. The tactic that they used is that they use high pressure selling and have many people at one time telling you to sign up for hte package otherwise it is wasted, so that you will succumb. Also the other tactic that they used is that they asked you to sign for the payment at stages, before facial , during facial and after, so that you are not aware of the TOTAL cost that you spent. In the end, instead of the $50 i intended to spend, I ended up spending $1500 !!!
I lodged a complaint to them, but they refused to give me any refund, and telling me that I was fullly aware of what I was paying for. When actually fact i only know the TOTAL amount after the facial service.
I just want to warn any body else out there not to succumb to their tactics ands the likes of them.
if you want to ask me any further questions about it, please do email me.
My email address is lisacity2000@yahoo.com.sg
Er. I bought a package from them too. Yes they do hard sell, but do be aware of your rights as a consumer to say no. Always be clear about what you're buying - if you're not clear, ask. And if you're not comfortable, you have the right to walk away and not buy anything. I don't really understand how you were not aware that you were paying $1500 - I paid $1200 for my package, swiped my card, and it was pretty straightforward.![]()

i believe many salons out there use such tactics, i have heard even hair salons resort to such acts![]()
lets hope u have positive & good results from your facial visits, what's done, can't be undone, they do this sort stuff everyday, consider their cup of tea so we can't beat them especially after payment is made. perhaps get someone to go down & inquire as i believe it is not 'effecttive or fruitful' for u to try again, unless the SAs have hearts![]()
sorry, just curious how did they get you to sign payment during facial?? while you're laying in bed?Originally Posted by loveme
I too was approached to sign a $3K+ package but in another spa/salon. The lady kept repeating the same thing until I was a bit annoyed. I told her firmly that there is no way without any re-consideration I'll sign up something 3K on the spot. I asked for some breathing space and walked out of the salon.
I was corceced into signing 1 package at one of the spas too! Cost about thousand over dollars, payable thru credit card by monthly installments.
So I feign interest but I told them; the card I want to sign is my BF's supp card so that he will foot the bill. Also told them I will come back when I got the supp card successfully....![]()
Hee, I got away......![]()
since i am from h.k. every week i buy h.k magazine to read... there was a lot of complaint from beauty salons and i remembed some from Modern beauty. this makes me not trusting beauty salon anymore.
some ppl's face was damaged after the 1st facial. and they ask for refund. and no sound from them!![]()
loveme, im sorry to hear that.....
But i think that no one can be coerced into doing something they do not want, IF YOU ARE FIRM ENOUGH...Always remember you have consumer rights to say NO..
If you feel you shouldnt pay for the package or anything above what you think you are expected to pay, you can jolly well dont give them your card, and dont sign the card, kick a fuss, walk out, whatever. I know i sound abit harsh now..pardon me.... I cannot understand why some people can still sign their card (such huge amount somemore) and later don't even know what they are paying for and saying they are being forced into it?
No doubt some salons really do hard sell.....but....the card is yours, the hand is yours....If you had insisted, I believe they wouldnt point knife at you and ask you to produce or sign the card right?
Hmm anyway, even if you had not sign the package, it will be still an extremely awful experience for you....
Yeah, since you've already paid for the package, lets hope it will turn out good![]()

Beware of Modern Beauty! I have bad experience with them too.
The service from all the outlets islands are bad. Apart from that, the manager in toa payoh branch is very unprofessional. i had a facial at the branch few months ago and they told me the no. of treatment I have left is 5 instead of 10. I have keeping record of the numbers of treatment I had with the salon ands I only visited the toa payoh outler and taka outlet. After insisting that they check their record, was told that the tampines outlet had keyed in my membership no. for services renderedf to another client! I called the tampines branch to get them to rectify and was told that they will do so and they confirm verbally the no. of treatments which i have with them.
I am also supposed to get a call from toa payoh branch manager to confirm this. But after two months I still did not hear from her.
I called them to make appointment for facial today and was told that I have 2 treatments left! Called the same toa payoh manager to get her to sort out problem. Suppose to retn call but didn't do so as expected. She got her staff to screen calls and avoided my calls giving the excuse that she is busy.
This is unbelievable for a salon that was awarded the superbrands!! i am the customer and this is a mistake made by them.
PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THEM!!
To add further, they are suppose to key in customer's profile in the computer which is centralised so it should be considered updated. I sense something fishy in the way they operate their business. they made customers top up more facials even way before they complete their package and make them confuse. The customers do not have a card to endorse the no. of treatments they had with them. they are all controlled by them so no proof to show.
u should report this to CASE. i mean.. this IS bad!
i guess most beauty salons practise such tactics, you really gotta be more careful in future. *pat pat*
Well they have their strengths too if not how they survive with all the compeition out there.
As long as you don't feel comfortable with them, don't go back to them again.
i never trust those beauty salons despite my classmate kept telling me how good a facial treatment from beauty salon is. i had my fair share of unhappiness with beauty salon here too which made me very determined not to go to them.
those who felt that they are being deceived should make a report so that they would not get any superbrand recognition anymore.bad salons
Hey loveme
i went to tt branch some 2 months back too! it was a nice env (physically) and the facial was, i must admit, great! i bought a trial facial at $23 so was well worthed the money. after e facial there comes the consultation of cos. since i have a sales background, there was nothing they could do to me, esp when i went during lunch hour with my ezlink card and some small change only. i did quite like the facial but yes, definitely not their service. so now i am pondering if i shld go back too...
i went once too...
and it will also be my last time..
they tried to make me sign up of their packages..
but i was adamant... keep telling them no money...
when the SA could not convince me...
she got another colleague to help her out..
so it was a battle of two against one..
and they used the usual tactic of " the offer valid only for now"..
"such a good deal will not be available anymore".. blah blah blah....
thank goodness i was pretty firm.. managed walk away...
and when they realised that they couldnt convince me to part with my thousands...
their "smiling face" took a total change...![]()
