Hi all,
clumsy me tripped while walking today and got 3 thick, dull scratches on my favourite pair of black patent pumps.minor scratches i can tolerate, but these are really an eyesore....
any tips or tricks to get rid of scratches on patent shoes (esp black ones) will be greatly appreciated.![]()
have you brought them to a cobler yet? see if he can help.
i used nail polish topcoat in the end it and sort of worked! it didn't cover the scratches 100% but it masked them quite well and made them less visible. wanted to try black nail polish like what Ashlene suggested but was afraid that it would look patchy so i reached for the topcoat instead![]()
i used nail polish remover on my white patent pumps and it worked, although i had to scrub at the scratches quite a bit. i'm not sure if it will work on black patent shoes because nail polish remover removes the colour, after all... so i think you should use it only as a last resort.
lesson learnt: if possible, buy high quality patent pumps instead. i've heard from another cotter that the really good quality patent ones, like those from prada, don't scratch at all. but of course i can't afford them![]()
a dental nurse used alcohol to remove some scratches on my sandals. So nice of her
One SA told me to use glass cleaner on a cloth, and use the cloth to wipe patent shoes =)
LittleLambie: ah, i see. thanks for the clarification!![]()
i have some scratches on my white patent heel and used ointment/johnson baby oil and it worked! cheap & good.
note: ointment works better
I have a patent Chloe bag, and the instructions say that I can clean and shine patent leather with lanolin and a soft fabric.
I think you can find lanolin in pharmacies.
Lanolin is actually wool wax or wool fat.
Ooh I just noticed this thread!
Now i know what to do..I have some patent shoes that got scratched too..
Thanks for the tips babes!![]()

If the color (paint) on your shoe actually scratched off, I think its best to take it to a shoe repair if you're that desperate. Otherwise, clear nailpolish probably works...
