    shoe care

    Need help

I hope this is the most appropriate thread.

I am so tired of my cloth based flats like those from x:odus, have ugle footprint marks on their cloth base. It's almost as if my dead skin (well inadvertantly) rubs onto the cloth base giving it a whitish cast of a foot!

Help! I'm sure many girls experience this with cloth bases? I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to care for them, is washing advisable? (i'm afraid of runing the sequins) The base is a wood layer and a rubber heel.

    TIA!

    Default Tips from Magazines

I got these tips from Taiwan magazines:

    1. To prevent shoes from getting fungis, put some shoe drying agent / moisture - absorbing stuff in your closed shoes rack.

    2. If the shoe rack is opened - air one, you can buy moisture-absorbing pack. Then, put it into the leather shoes / sport shoes. It is to keep the dry environment for the shoes always.

    3. To increase the "duration" of a pair of shoe, you are recommended to wear the same pair of shoe in the alterate days. So that, the shoes got enough time to rest & prevent from the "smell" created when you wear too long....

    4. For leather shoes, it is better than you can clean them with dry cloth / proper leather cleaning cloth after wearing them everytime.

Thanks for the tip Shon! It's really helpful!

Any ideas where to buy moisture-absorbing packs?

I noticed that for my new shoes( or shoes that i wore very in-frequently), they tend to stay in better shaper longer if i keep them in my room. But when i placed them in individuals shoe-boxes and keep in the shoes cabinet, they just seem to 'grow old' faster. I reckon that the moisture level is higher where my cabinet is( near the main door and often windy and all that).

But i bought a tub of Moisture-absorbing agent and place it in my shoe cabinet. I'm not sure if it helps any. But the tub is sure absobing the mositure, as i can see water filling up the tub after a few weeks.

But my shoe cabinet still smells...
    Even when i cleaned everything!

Welcome, Ponine. Where to buy moisture-absorbing packs? Mm..... Last time, I bought it from the S$1.99 shop. The pack is from Japan. I can't remember the name. There are 2 packs for each packaging. You can put the packs in leather shoes & sport shoes to absorb moisture & the smells as well. However, since S$1.99 had bankrupted already, I have no idea where to buy the packs. Usually, i just open my shoes cabinet when i clean my house weekly. Of course, clean the leather shoes with dry cloth. thirsty hippo is too big to insert into the cabinet.

Maybe I go to Value shop to have a look and report to you again?

Thirsty hippo now comes in satchet form that you can clip to the pole in your wardrobe. That may be small enough to fit into your cabinet

hi lolitapop, i know this may be slightly off topic. but from the way you describe your shoe from x:odus. it sounds like a pair that i have. i guess its a wedge? anyway, i face the same problem as you. the first time it got dirty with all the ugly prints, i washed it and "sunned" it. however, after a few times it doesn't work anymore. and yes, the shoe smelt too. anyway i have given up hope on that pair of shoe. it became so bad that it started to turn mouldy. even if i put it in the open. moreover, i find that their shoes spoil easily. another pair of slippers just kind of like crumble before my eyes and that was one pair that i really really love. will never throw that away cause its my first pair from x:odus.

ok now the off topic subject, did you girls know that x:odus has lowered their prices? they are also having kind of a major sale going on right now. went down last friday. didn't get anything. its funny, now that their shoes are cheaper i didn't get anything. kind of disappointed with them actually. although their prices were kind of high last time, but their designs were very good till i was willing to pay so much for it. guess you all should know what i mean.

I think this happened to me too - Charles & Keith. I love the designs when they just started the business. However, it's strange that I can't get anything when there is a sale or no sale at all now. Nothing can attract me to buy there.... Feel disappointed on them... The designs are just similar to other shops, e.g. prettyfit, NoDa... sometimes.. The materials are not as good as last time too...
