Mimosabreeze , great perspective and positive attitude towards SDN events. Indeed it's better to just take it as abit of effort to make new friends or try out new places rather than just being too focused on "scoring the big fish/business deal" mentality. Less expectations.. less disappointment and less damage done to one's esteem too.

    Thanks Alyssassara,

I have been to enough business networking sessions to feel the pressure of landing some kind of business contacts/contracts/deal for work too often. In comparison, the "pressure" of these singles event are nothing ! At least I don't have a boss to answer to at the end of the day !!!

So I guess the nature of my work makes it that little easier for me to mingle around such singles events although I never like to do "business networking" at singles events ! Too complicating and too weird !

I just realised SDN is having S$25 off selected events in the month of Feb (some kind of valentine's day promotion) hahaha ! The government is working really hard trying to get us in mood in the month of February ! I say bring it on !! I've already spotted some pretty interesting events I'm interested in.

9-course Taiwan lunch by Cliquewise on 19 Feb
I'm not sure how the facilitation of a 9 course meal going to work out though ! Comes with the discount :D What do you think LowChia ? Worth checking it out ?

Sunset and Wine by JSG on 25 Feb
I've been wanting to try JSG... so this would be a good opportunity with the discount :D

I will also be going to the TCC casual on 4th Feb as one of the girls I knew through the singles event is asking me to join her ! I don't usually like going to coffee chain stores for SDN events as I already know what TCC is .. but I was thinking if there's company this round, then why not !!

Sounds like Feb may be a busy month ! If I'm going on all.... it's going to be 3 events this month.. not sure if i'm going to have enough time to get around it !

I see that Cliquewise has been quite creative with their events recently except they are some of the pricier organiser around !

    Hi Mimosa,

2 thumbs up for injecting positivity & optimism in this thread. I like your bright outlook towards the events. Yeah, i have the same thoughts about joining the events and bringing smtg back to my social life too. Be it uncovering some new hideouts or just sharing some interesting experience I had with my own social circle.

i thought the paintball & go kart by Cliquewise sounds fun! Anyone joined similar event by Cliquewise?

Hey i thought it will be v cute if Mimosa & lowchia are to bump into each other at one of these events. haha. Just a random thought =)
Maybe we should just start our own CNY gathering, go lo hei at some Chinese restaurant with fellow cotters and start the dragon year afresh with our new found friends!

    Hi Melodious,

Glad you enjoy the sunshine I'm trying to spread here.. I must still be in my CNY festive mood ! I think a lot people think too much, too hard about "what will happen" when they go onto such events and forget to enjoy the "now" and the "other pleasures" of meeting new people or discovering new places.

I was telling a new single friend about some of the events I attended and the first reaction from her was "OMG, what if the guys are horrible?" or "What if they "cannot make it"?" and "What if this and that"... All the "what ifs" questions assuming the worst of other people and the situation before even attending any of it. To be put it bluntly - too judgemental !

As I mentioned in my previous posts, there will always be jerks (both guys as well and girls) and awkward situations but part of living life is not only to be able to live in comfortable zones but to also challenge ourselves about how to handle awkward people and situation skillfully. Saying that, I can say the number of nice people at those events outweighs the few annoying ones. As for the awkwardness, it will always be present and the only way to avoid the awkwardness is to stay at home and watch one's favourite DVD.

Lowchia has been onto one of the paintball activity I believe, so you might want to ask him !

Haa yeah that'll be too funny but I think we update the events we are going to quite often on this board so we'll often know who's going to what !

Good luck in taking part in some of the singles event and don't forget to update us !!

I went for their paintball and gokart event before, I find that it was worth the $98 price that I paid for. The activities were quite fun and the food was good, though it was a huge group and hard to know people. But I won't go for this again because it more like painball...very painful and will get bruises! If you wanna go, better wear thicker long-sleeve t-shirt and long cargo pants to protect yourself.

    Hello fellow cotters,

I have also joined a few events from various agencies and similar to what the female cotters had experienced, guys were quite quiet and passive during events. I ended up exchanging contacts with the ladies at my table instead I did make a few guy friends during the events but ended up not contacting after a few months. Probably no chemistry? *Shrug*

Not sure if you ladies have experienced meeting the same guys at different events. Dun know if it's such a small world, I went to 3 different events in a space of 8 mths and I saw a couple of guys twice at the 3 events (different organisers). Seems a bit awkward to meet the same ppl.

    Hi justgal83,

Good to know other cotters are also actively participating in the SDN events ! Please share your experiences on the forum with the rest of us !

That was also what I thought at my first few events, the guys were quiet and passive but after my last 2 events, I'm starting to digress on that statement. I think it really depends .. sometimes the event just happen to congregate the quiet ones together ! hahaha ! How many events have you been to so far ? Try to go on different events of different format organised by different organisers !

You may want to try the drinking and bar scene format where people are a lot more relaxed and chilled out vs the sit down ones where even the shy and passive guys can survive. My suspicion is that the very shy and passive ones wouldn't really want to get onto the bar scene because that involves quite a bit of socialising skills to survive the event but that also means people there are probably less focussed, less serious and just there to enjoy the drinking atmosphere. There are pros and cons to the different format and I'll suggest everyone to try a different one each time !

Yes - I started seeing a couple of familiar faces too but bearing in mind what a small population we have in Singapore and the limited number of events available, it is inevitable that we will bump into the same people now and again. As per my previous posts, there will always be awkward situations at events like these and the only way to avoid the awkwardness is not to leave the house but we all know that's not the best advice to meeting new people !

    Hi Mimosabreeze,

I did thought of attending a drinking scene event.. Hmm, do u have any in particular to recommend?

And pardon me to ask, do u attend the event alone or with friends? I previously attended quite a few events with my friends.. n i do understand that we will thus tend to stick to our friends.. but kind of weird to attend alone. therefore i have not step out this first step yet.. hmmmm....

Don't waste thousands of dollars with dating agency! It's just a waste of money. One popular agency I attended only interested in telling me about his automated computer system in matching a date. The other agency I signed up, sent me girls who either disappear after first date, the look can't be presented to my mum n dad, or has very little hair on the head.

What I suggest is let's do it here. If you are a decent looking (lets be realistic. guys r visual n u need at least decent look to make him wanna jump on you), kind hearted, faithful, with a little brain, not old, u can be the one I'm looking for!

So I'm a guy looking for love. Faithful and kind. Sometimes get a bit short temper but useful to get things done. Born with a timid heart - don't dare to commit crimes and hurt people. Scare of God because He can strike a lightning on me anytime. Cant afford the latest BMW 7 or x1 series but manage to earn a cozy 4 door family car through years of slogging for others. So if you are looking for a BIG wallet, then better dont pick this. Not a big fan in collecting certificates but do have a proper degree from local reputable university. Don't have Andy Lau or Aaron Kwok look. So don't expect to find a Faye Wong or Guan zhiling GF.

So my intention. To settle down in one or two years after pak tor. No previous entangled relationships. Tall, slim and clean. No piak piak allowed b4 marriage but kissing is ok.

    For those interested, pm me!
