Where to send kids for ballet, art and piano classes?

I did a search on this but didn't come up with anything. Not sure if I searched correctly.

I am interested to send my 5 1/2 yr old DD to ballet and art class. She was attending ballet from Kavanagh at our nearby CC but Kavanagh moved out in Nov. I could register DD at their Toa Payoh location but was hoping to go somewhere in the East, where I live. I see a few Crestar branches. Anyone has experience with them?

As for art classes, DD has yet to attend any. I was looking at NAFA but I think they only accept 7 yr olds onwards? Besides, long waiting list. Where is a good place to start?

DD has also expressed interest in trying piano. Is Christofori (spelling?) good? Any recommendations?

I live in Woodlands and send my girls for ballet and art classes at Crestar (Civic centre branch). They are ok ... it's not like you're trying to nurture a budding artist or ballerina right? .. Anyway, they really are quite decent .. I was very surprised initially ... My 9 year old attends Art and ballet (Grade 1) and my 3.5 year old attends Bebe Ballet there ..

The teachers are quaified and professional. Fees are quite decent too.

you can try Yamaha music school.

If $$ isn't a problem, i would recommend Slyvia Mccully School Of Dancing at Thomson Plaza. she's really good and you can take up graded examinations as well.

I started at a young age of 4 or 5 with her.

Oh ya! Crestar also conducts graded examinations for ballet - my daughter is taking Grade 1 ballet exams in March.

My younger daughter is in Bebe Ballet which is for meant for the 3-4 age group. She really enjoys it

Some other good schools I've heard of are Attitude and Forms Ballet - both at Bukit Timah Plaza I think.

Yup. Attitude Arts at Bukit Timah Plaza is not bad as well. I attended a couple of lessons there before.

Maybe you can get information from Cheng Ballet.. I've heard that the tutor teach professionally and friendly. They teach several ballet's programs or techniques. Will PM you for details about them and hope you'll find the best ballet school for your kid..

definitely go to yamaha for music lessons!

i was there when i was a kid, enjoyed my piano lessons alot!
worked in yamaha before as well, saw alot of happy parents.

i work in crestar as a ballet pianist, the ballet teachers are good, but depends on which one you get. the older and more experienced ones are definitely better, but they have long waiting lists and the classes are always crowded. the younger ones will have smaller classes, but they are more lax with teaching.

i agree that sylvia mccully is good! she helped out with my teacher's concert (i used to take ballet as well) and she's a good instructor and a great choreographer (:

btw for piano lessons, it's ok to go to christofori and yamaha, but i think that after a certain grade (i.e. grade 3), going private is best. the teachers at christofori and yamaha will also try to poach you to go private with them, cos they don't want the company to take a cut of their fees.

going private may be cheaper as well. piano lessons at christofori are half-hour lessons (i can't remember if it's the same for yamaha), which i don't think are long enough to be beneficial. the teachers are always rushing. private lessons for beginners usually start at $100 a month for 45 minutes a lesson, which gives a better value. (teachers who went overseas to study music will definitely charge more.)

you can go to Singapore Ballet Academy in fort canning hill. Fee are reasonable.

For ballet I would recommend dancepointe, they have really kind and patient teachers. Ohh and they have really good dance flooring too, heard that it reduces impact when jumping. You might like to google dancepointe to find out more...
