HELP!
what is the in thing now to start a business?
any suggest?
am i in the rite thread?![]()
JiaQing, can pm me too? thks.
hi competitor!
7 years already, you should have a good customer base. set up a shop shouldn't be a problem. is true that there already lots of salon in the market. but if your customers like you and is used to your hands, they die die also stick to you.
for $30 you travel to-and-fro, you "spoil" the customers and market sia. you either charge transport or have to ask them to gather at least 2 gals to make your trip worth while.
there's no "in" thingy to start a business. importantly, you have to create a clean and cozy environment for the customers. upgrading is very important too. cannot be doing the same nail art month after month right?
my way of running my nail salon - love customers' nails just i would love my own.
Thanks for the advise. Well maybe i please my customer too much that i forgotten about myselfI know i have to take the risk but i'm afraid of the rainy days. Remember the bubble tea? It sprout like mushrooms but it pops out like balloons.
Maybe i just have to think of something else then..

thanks chubbyvoo. I need a lot of courage n support for that but people around me is quite sceptical about itDo u set up a shop or a home based one? Mind if i ask?
BuRLisQuE,
like what chubbyvoo mention, for $30 you travel to-and-fro, you really "spoil" the customers.
But if Im your customer I will love you deep deep.
Do consider to charge transport fee. Maybe only those that is around your estate then no transport fee incurred.
To set up a nail salon, my idea is to spend minimum $ for the set up but provide the best to my customer.
Hence for me I will have to gain more n more experiences before I set up one.
But Im a old lady le and I start off later than those young creative ladies out there.
So by then I set up 1 salon, I might be mid 30s...
So Jia You! Do want you think is best for you and do what you enjoy most.![]()
BuRLisQue - I know what you mean. Most of my friends are housewives, none of them do nails. When I skip mahjong sessions with them and tell them I need to go back and work, they look at me and ask "Also not CNY, also got ppl?"
Like what JiaQing mentioned, as long as you enjoy what you are doing, just go for it. Be confident ok! Me home salon. The rental outside puts me off. Plus I have 2 monkeys to take care at home, so I'll stay put at home for a while.
JiaQing - talking abt old, i already pass mid 30sbut i'm indeed lucky to combine my hobby and work together. i know a lot of ppl doesn't like their jobs but have to stick to it.
Give yourselves a hug and "$$ pia $$" for X'mas and CNY!!![]()

Not many people think good in this line. They always think it is just like a "bubble tea" or now "donut". Will die off soon.
Even my mum ask me, why Im interested in this line. How much you can earn? etc etc....
But when I do a mani+pedi on her, she really enjoy it.
That really touch me to carry on...
chubbyvoo,![]()
Ya, Im one of them, stuck with a job that I dont like.

JiaQing - never mind, your hubby will support you. ya, congras for your wedding!
nail is consider part of beauty industry. as long as women is alive, this trade will not die like bubble tea. every trade is competitive, be it hair salon, facials or nails. so just gotta hang on and do our best!
Thanks alot u all!
That really puts me at ease.
hello all cotter manicurists,
how are you gals doing this period of time before CNY (Chinese New Year)?
i'm going mad if i still "bottle" up myself. the nearer to CNY, the more stressful i feel. how do u all handle this busy period? i feel very worried over lots of things like customers cancel appt last minute, customers coming late, schedule might be mixed up etc...........stress until i "lao sai", just like before exams. now, can only pray that customers "co-operate" and be "good"![]()
chubbyvoo,
haha for me still quite quiet for my home salon.
Not very packed for CNY period. Still can breathe...
Only 2days before CNY is quite packed. But still can breathe..
Just that will feel worried like you too....
Weekends play my 2 sisters nails.
By the way, customers cancel appt last minute, customers coming late, schedule might be mixed up... are super common...
Some suggestions:-
Avoid customers cancel appt last minute
Place deposit. Understand that you dont have any surcharges so it is reasonable to ask for a super small amt of deposit. But some customer will find it unreasonable... It really depends how you want to put it across.
Avoid customers coming late, schedule might be mixed up...
Allow half hrs break gap inbtw appts. Send reminder over and over again.
If 1st customer is late, inform the 3rd customer onwards to come later...
