There is this India fair going on at Expo for the past few days up till Sunday and I went down to have a peek. There was a large jewellery component in the expo and I thought I had share with cotters.
There were the usual traditional indian fare but the really lovely part for me was that there were some really lovely and more modern pieces in the mix. What attracted me were the sterling silver dangling earrings, studs and pendants with semi-precious stones set-in. While the semi-precious stones are perhaps lower grade ones, they are of lovely colours and you might find some lovely ones if you look carefully enough.
Be warned though, the stall-holders jack up the prices exorbitantly and some real bargaining is required. The prices are quoted from S$10.00 to hundreds of dollars. and you could really put your bargaining skills to the test here. Do not be taken in by the stall-holders hesitation.
The jewellery is sourced from throughout india, the different states with their specialties and there are some lovely and unique pieces. I would gush further but the prices are really horrible and I am sure you can get them in india much cheaper. Well, the saving grace is that it's all under one roof.
Yeah, I was there too. And I agree with everything inkypurple said. Didn't get any jewellery this time, just a skirt and a blouse. Really ethnic-looking and pretty green with mirror-work.
