yea rose quartz is kind of hard to differentiate.
they all look the same but some is more diluted and pale-looking. more to white. while some is really very pretty pink.
and if you touch those diluted ones, you'll feel the cold, same for real gd quality ones.
i guess it would be good if you get from somewhere reptuable.
just my two cents worth.
Thanks addictedThe rose quartz I saw is definately a pretty pink. That was what caught my eye, along with the gorgeous design. The rose quartz goes really well with the pink gold that it's set on. Now I guess just have to mull over the price haha.
Momopeach: I can't give you pointers if the gem-quality rose quartz you saw is genuine. It helps if you get it from somewhere reputable.
Just remember not to leave your rose quartz in strong sunlight because the colour will fade.
A general rule of thumb for cheaper doctored varieties (if you are buying tumble stones or cabochons), the dye usually congregates around the cracks and inclusions, leaving a darker coloured line different from the rest of the stone.
Most rose quartz are either pale pink and translucent. Gem-quality ones can be either transparent and very pale pink in colour (rare these days) that the pink only shows up clearly if you hold it up close or against certain backgrounds.
If it is gem-quality translucent (no cracks or inclusions) the colour is much richer. However, if the colour is extremely rich, I would say there still has been some doctoring involved to enhance the rose-quartz aesthetic value.
Oh thank you so much mirabilis. I will try to remember the next time I pass by the jewellery store.
I love precious and semi-precious stones too! Would order from this nice lady at her website., mybeadz.blogspot.com. And she takes in customised orders as well but a long wait.

Hmmm. I don't like Belle Beads. (http://www.mybeadz.blogspot.com.) Her designs are quite commonplace.
However, I must agree that her semi-precious stone/ precious stone creations are quite good value for money. Not her other beaded jewellery though.
momopeach: you're welcome!! (i'm not of much help anyway. haha) how much is the one that you are eyeing for? hope you'll get something that you really like! show us if you have bought it!
Hehe I havent bought the evil lemming yet. It's around $1100 after 30% discount. I have till end of next wk to decide anyway. In the meantime, trying to hint to SO to get it for me, but no luck yet. haha.
i love my rose quartz earrings set in pink gold. momopeach, i know what you mean, i was initially reluctant to spent like 800 plus for rose quartz, thinking that it could buy me a pair of nice diamond earrings....but i wanted something diff. the design is like those at pomellato.
