i use jewellery cleaner. its a red bottle and liquid form. can be bought from goldheart if not wrong. very clean after washing it. even my precious stones earrings shines after washing with it.
another way to washing is to buy those small jewellery cleanser. however, i heard from the sa not all diamonds or jewellery can be placed inside. have to make sure the diamond quality is good and no cracks. otherwise will cause further cracks.
I spoke to the salesman and he said that the diamond quality can drop after a person wears it (something like jade).
I wonder how true is it, and is he refering to a drop in quality of colour / cracks?![]()
that is not true at all.
sigh.. sometimes i get exasperated talking to the jewelry salespeople at some of the local jewelry chains in singapore. these shops clearly have not spent much money in educating their salespeople on gemstones and they are misleading the public as a result.
a diamond does not change its characteristics over time. it can however be cracked or chipped if it is knocked at a particular angle or during the setting process.
for my jewelry, i usually soak them in a mixture of warm water and dishwashing liquid for about ten mins. i then use a baby toothbrush to carefully scrub around the whole piece. i was given a bottle of the connosieur jewelry cleaner (i think that is the one v_ni is referring to) by tiffany's and find it good as well. however i have a friend who told me her white gold seems to change colour after she uses it. please note that not all gemstones can be put in it so do read the instructions carefully. i also use an ultrasonic cleaner once in a while. do take care in putting jewelry with small gemstones in it as the vibrations could loosen the stones from their setting.
How about those free cleansing services provided by jewellery shops?
Are they effective and safe ? I heard they will cause scratches to the diamond surface. Is it true?
i would recommend you do so only if you know and trust the jeweler.
how can u tell if your diamond is clean by the jeweler?
