Hi Audrey!
I used to knit quite a bit and more recently picked up sewing (knitting takes a long time!) so now I sew clothes and make bags.
I spend quite a lot of time surfing US websites on crafters, there seems to be a revival of sorts there for 'hip' crafts and there is a large community of 'crafty girls' around - i think it would be great if we could have something like that here too to chat about what we love, and share ideas, etc.!
What sort of crafts do you enjoy??
hi dorothy,
welcome to the forum.its good to hear from you, at least there is somebody flipping through this forum ...but i guess its mostly for people who are interested in crafts and decor...
i'd love to have this kind of crafty community here too ...its so popular in the US and in australia..its something which a few people just gather and sit somewhere and have coffee and chat bout what we love to do and what we want to do.![]()
its a pity that most people here do not cultivate this kind of culture and hobby. its just not 'singaporeans' . only a handful will be interested in these.
i've been a great crafter since young ...til now. i love crafts so much and i spent lots of time on them too. i don't do knitting but i am into patchwork , card making, painting and decorating. i've tried cross stitch but unfortunately i do not have the patience. i made a quilt recently. also i love making cards with rubber stamps and explore with different materials i can find around me. i do things like painting a picture frame and decorating it.... oil painting once in a while... its fun though.![]()
i enjoyed every minute of my hobby and that was part of life for me.![]()
wow! a quilt - i don't think i will have the patience to complete that, sounds like a lot of work.
can't do cross stitch either - the small holes kill my eyes!
have only recently discovered crafty sites, but as mentioned, surf more US centric ones...(have you visited www.craftster.org ??) i haven't really checked for any local ones, so was quite pleased when i saw the hobby thread on this forum!
i was hoping (maybe against hope) that we could have something similar e.g. stitch and bitch sessions, crafty fairs and community etc etc.
singapore's not the most conducive place for crafting unfortunately...not enough supplies and material choices..and mostly pretty expensive too.
well, take heart - perhaps there will be more responses - from the knitting thread, it looks like there are at least a few enthusiastic knitters out there!!
i've not visit the site yet..will do so. i hope too that there'll be a commuity for crafters . i'm not into knitting...
Hi everyone,
With all the urban hustle and bustle lifestyle, I am just wondering how many on this forum still do handicrafts?
Please respond to this poll so that we can have some fun!
Em
welcome to the forum!
Hi Audrey!
I do crafts too. Like sewing (always wanted to sew my own bags but never got down to it) and cross stitch!
I also enjoy painting in watercolours, acrylics and oils. More fine artish though.
hi jean!
welcome to the forum.how long have you been painting?
so what do you normally sew?
I usually end up sewing more practical stuff like plastic bag dispenser, little pouches and pencil cases.
I've been taking both O and A level art so I've been doing that for about 5+ years and well painting for maybe about 3+ I'm better at sketching, is that considered crafty?
How about you?
well painting consider 's fine art though...not crafty but its how you look at it...it can be a piece of art too if you want.
i use to do oil painting but not now cos you need time and all the time. i paint boxes, make cards and quilting.
