hi anybody here tried microgynon 30? my gynae prescribed it to me for irregular periods and also to treat acne. during the first month of taking it, my acne became better but during the second month, it worsened! i'm very troubled by this): Was thinking if i should switch to diane-35/yasmine to try as these 2 ocp seem to work in clearing acne for most girls. will appreciate any advice TIA!![]()
Hi everyone, can I check with you girls, I'm 21 this year and will be starting on Yasmin tomorrow for the first time.
I have no pimples on my face since secondary school and I'm worried that starting on Yasmin will cause these pimples to come back. will that happen?
Any advise?![]()
Hi babycakes,
Yasmin is a relatively new OCP which contains low levels of hormones (estrogen and progesterone). Thus, in addition to its contraceptive effect, it has other benefits such as lighter, shorter periods. Yasmin is also prescribed to teenagers to help with severe acne vulgaris (yasmin prevents the large fluctuations in hormonal levels which is common in teenagers) hence you can be rest assured that the OCP will NOT bring back your acne. In fact, it will probably give you better skin.
There's a short overview on all OCPs at http://www.healthtalk.sg/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=26 You can refer to the article there to find out more.
Hope this helped!![]()
what an relief to hear (: thanks a million snocksntoes for your detailed info! greatly appreciated!!
hi socksntoes,
would you happen to know anything about the pap smear? I want to go for it but i'm a bit nervous. I went to the forum you linked above and saw that there's an explanation on pap smear as well. (http://www.healthtalk.sg/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=10)
Anyway, is it possible for me to obtain the OCP and do the pap smear at the same time? Do you know what the charges are like and which GP clinic usually has females? My usual GP is male so I'm not very comfortable.
TIA![]()
Hi Adelphi34,
The pap smear explanation on healthtalk.sg is quite comprehensive so the procedure is pretty much like what was explained.
Yes you can obtain the OCP and do the pap smear in the same setting. In fact most GPs would encourage you to do that esp if you are above 25 or sexually active. Just remember to book your pap smear appt at least 14 days after the first day of your period.
I know a few GP clinics that have female resident doctors but you should probably call to check again:
1. Healthway clinic at Bukit Timah (King's centre)
2. Healthway clinic at toa payoh central
3. Raffles medical clinic at OUB centre at Shenton way
4. Raffles medical clinic at Fusionopolis
5. Raffles family medicine clinic at Raffles Hospital at Bugis
A pack of OCP ranges from S$25+ to S$30plus. The Pap smear costs about S$30+ in the private GP clinics, cheaper in the polyclinics but I'm not sure how much.

Hello.
I had been on Mercilon for a while and recently it has been difficult to purchase from my GP (out of stock). So i was given the prescription to purchase it from pharmacy. Some of which is also having low stock for that. <- Do you girls have issues purchasing?
So GP recommended me to try using Gynera. Which after one month of trying, i realized i am more easily irritated than ever and sex drive kinda went down abit.
Anyone else that experience this as well?
