Nice lady. BUt her queues are too long for my patience.
AGREE hands & feets down and up. Haha, I usually try to fix appointment for weekdays.
i've been curious for a long time, do most of you ladies here start visiting a gynae only when you're pregnant or trying to get pregnant?Originally posted by lumos
dumb question. but when should you start visitng a gynae?
what about single ladies? i've read on foreign websites how common it is for young grown-up ladies to go for regular check-ups on a yearly or 2-3 year interval check-ups with their gynae.
i tried asking my mum, but she too only visited a gynae when she was pregnant. so what i'm asking here is... is it necessary to go to a gynae if you're still single and not pregnant nor planning for one?
do you visit a gynae for regular full body check-ups/ screenings? pap smears, common infections etc.? or a regular clinic doctor/ polyclinic will do?
can't seem to find much info. on this.
TIA!

from what i know, for the single gals, visit the gynae when you've gone and done the "thang"... hehe, you know what i mean? sex. other than that, i believe there's no need to go see the gynae, hrmm... maybe unless you've got a horrible infection down there...
if you're talking about a general health screening, you can do so at a GP.
crazygirl, I agree with bo-peep. It's recommended to visit a gynae once you become sexually active regardless of your marital status. And personally I think to do check up after one is pregnant is a bit too late. What if you have abnormalities or conditions that can put your baby in danger? Isn't it better to treat it before pregnancy?
I started going after witness my best friend who was a virgin back then found out that she has a cyst, I seen the pain she went thru. Thus begin to see one. Never regret that decision I made cause it's really important.
so once you are sexually active, you should consult a gynae just for checkup? is that what it is?
yups, once you're sexually active, should start going for Pap Smear once every 2 years. this is to detect/prevent cervical cancer or any other sexually transmitted disease...
with regards to cyst, i think as to how virgin girls find out is that they would experience severe pain in the lower abdomen area, or painful periods, then they should visit a gynae to see if there's any underlying cause for that. if you're a virgin and you don't feel anything wrong, generally it's safe to not visit the gynae first.
thanks ladies, for sharing your thoughts![]()
Hi, I was wondering if there is any good gynaes around the west area for recommendations? Prefers a female though.

Do you mind public hospital ? I like my gynae, Dr Yong TT at SGH very much. She is the nicest person I know. Believe me when you are pregnant there is so much things to worry about, you really need someone nice and reassuring. With her I had a smooth pregnancy as well as delivery.
how central do you mean? if its orchard area, i would like to recommend Dr Kowa from Mt E...he's experienced and gentle male gynae. he seems to be rather well known too. However, i find that the fees he charges are above average. Oh, and the nurses in his clinic are nice and friendly too
My defination of central is from Clementi to Orchard:p
