karen... tell him that in the long run it is more worth it doing LASIK. This is how I do my calculations:

I change my lenses about every yr = $360 (mine's permanent toric lens - yes I've astig, and I'm almost blind, keke)
    Cost of solution = $9 per bottle / mth = $108/yr
    Total = ~$400/yr = ~$4000 in 10 yr....

And LASIK will last u at least till you are 45-50.... till prebyopi sets in....

    So worth it right?

Haha...can of course.... haha. And tell him u want to wake up with perfect vision in the morning beside him and see his handsome face. That should seal the deal for u girl!

Oh yes! And glasses tend to contort "things", making "things" not thesame "size" or "length" as they are really.... so..... (okie , okie, I'm making all these up... but no harm trying right?)

    Default Pre-Op LASIK Evaluation

Not sure if anyone ahs shared this, but thought I just pen down what happen today during my screening.

Agenda: Pre-Op evaluation for LASIK - this is the standard test and screening for standard LASIK ops, so I need to return another day for the Wavefront LASIK evaluation...

First my cornea thickness is measured using a machine that looks like one of those u see in optical shops, rest your chin on a small ledge and look into the hole. Difference is the light shone into your eyes is much brighter and u had to keep your eyes wide open and make sure u don't blink at all when the optometrist chant" Don't move, don't blink. Don't move, don't blink).

Then it is off to another room to check your eyesight... or how poor your eyesight is... just normal reading off from the charts, similar to what i go through when u need to fit a pair of new glasses or lenses.

Then, u wait some more... and the nurse will put eye drops into your eyes to dilate your pupils for the Doc tor check... The most uncomfortable thing is when your pupils are dialted, u cannot see nearby objects. Forget about reading or even writing your sms .... no way! But can watch TV if u sit far enough... and u might feel a bit giddy, cos u are not used to it. The effects take a while to wear off, so make sure u dun drive after LASIK screening, get someone to accompany u home. Must thank my 2 s for sending me home.

After the consulation with the doc, who will tell u if u are suitable for LASIK, and for which typem standard or wavefront, u return back to the room to check your eyesight again.

Then it's off to the counter to pay...

Errm, one question, I heard that after the op, some of our corneas may be too thin for us to wear contacts again if *touch wood*, our eyesight gets worse... is that true?

I'm quite keen on LASIK actually, been meaning to go for those talks / consultants but keep putting it off. Was considering to go for LASIK in one / two years time, but since there are so much positive feedback here, may bring forward the timeline (if i'm tested suitable).

This is so educational. For years, I just wanted the technology to stabilise first.

Now the thing that is holding me back is, I spend a lot of time out at sea under really bright sunlight. Will I have a problem with lasiked eyes? Can somebody help here? Coz, I will not sacrifice the sea for anything or anybody.

The other thing is for some stupid reason, I want someone special to pay for the surgery. I think of it as the ultimate expression of love. Guess I'm just spineless.

    yo unc,

Don't get me wrong, but at your vintage, it will not be worthwhile to do LASIK. You'll only be specs-free for a maximum of 10 years before presbyopia sets in.

save the money and cook more......

Hey thats a good tip, thanks. Didn't know these things have an expiry date, like cosmetic surgery.

yeah, we wouldn't want any aesthetic extensions to fall off at inopportune times, do we?

Hi, I'm wondering if those who had LASIK or similiar operations could post the following:

    Type of operation
    e.g. LASIK

    When was it done
    e.g. May 2003

    Degree before operation
    e.g. 1,000 deg

    Corrected Vision / Any regression
    e.g. Perfect / still perfect

    Eye surgeon / Clinic
e.g. Dr ABC / XYZ Clinic
(I would really appreciate information on this, but if you're not comfortable in disclosing this to all for some reasons, let me know if it's ok to PM to ask that)

    Cost
    e.g. 2.5K/eye + 500 (for x no. of consultations)

    Side Effect / Duration
    e.g. Halos / 3 mths

    Any other comments

I'm seriously considering doing it now. But would like to hear from those who have done it. Thanks.

    hi gals!

have been thinking of doing LASIK for the longest time! I have some friends who have done it and all of them are very happy with the results. I have booked an appointment for pre-op assessment at SNEC. just wanna find out more...

do you/ yr friends/ relatives have problems after lasik? i just wanna find out more about the worst possible outcome. All my friends who have done it have no problem....and it seems too good to be true???

it seems that most of you gals chose wavefront LASIK instead of standard LASIK. is there a reason? wavefront LASIK is a newer technology with a shorter history. is it reliable?

    TIA!
