Default BAD Experience at Jean Yip AMK Hub!

I happened to walk by Jean Yip AMK Hub today and seeing that the huge salon was almost empty (only one customer at the time), I decided to get a hair cut since I'd bought their haircut package (previously, I had frequented another outlet).

I should NOT have decided to get a hair cut cos it was a series of bad customer service after another:

When I approached the counter, a bunch of the staff were crowded there with bored and sullen faces, not a single one even offered a "hi" by way of greeting. I had to open my mouth first and told them I'd signed up for their package and wanted a hair cut. One guy replied disinterestedly "uh-huh" and when I handed over my membership card, he passed it to another lady and asked her "Can or not?". The other staff commented that my package was signed up at another outlet. Yet another staff remarked "$30" (supposedly the "cost" of each haircut for the package I'd signed up). The lady then replied "$27" - they were apparently debating how much I had paid for the package, probably to determine the level of "service" they should render? Anyway the lady then called out to a stylist standing near by and asked me to follow him.

I told my "appointed" stylist, one middle-aged guy by the name of David, how I wanted my hair to be cut. He then proceeded to cut my hair VERY quickly, he was literally picking up handfuls and slashing them randomly. In the meantime, he commented that my scalp was oily, my rebonding was done too long ago, my colour was faded etc.

Seeing the way he was randomly slashing at my hair in a hurry, I got worried but told myself that since he looked rather old he should be pretty experienced. A short while later, he was done. Without asking me if I was ok with the result of his "expedited job", he moved to the other customer sitting nearby and proceeded to do her hair. Why did they have to assign 1 stylist to do 2 customers' hair at the same time when their were 4 other stylists lounging around??

Anyway, when the shampoo guy came over, I'd had a good look at my hair and was horrified. It looked like a mushroom with the top part cut too short and puffing out. Short hairs were also sticking out of my hair at random. It was so ugly I asked the shampoo boy why it was so puffy. He said it would look better after he blew dry it. The stylist David had heard my comment but did not bother to come over.

After the shampooing and blow-drying was done, my hair was still looking barely presentable. I was reading a magazine when David came over. I was outraged when without saying a single word, he threw the plastic cloak thingy over my magazine and all, while I was in the midst of reading it. He should have at least said something..but no!! he just threw the plastic cloak over my magazine and hands so rudely!!!!!! I was astonished at his blatant rudeness and after extricating the magazine out from underneath the cloak, I threw it onto the counter. Darn, I should have thrown it on the floor since he was so rude!

I tried to explain to him why I was unhappy with the haircut but he just flatly blamed it on my hair and claimed that after washing at home, it would not be as puffy anymore. By this time, I was fuming mad and disgusted with his service and skills but since he was not willing to do anything about it, I had no choice but to accept the damage had been done and give him the benefit of the doubt that it would look better after washing.

Well I just got home and washed my hair just now...and the hair looks exactly like how it looked after he was done with it!!! Worse, short little hairs were sticking out randomly all over!

Given that Jean Yip is a reputable chain of hair salons, I was disgusted and disappointed at this deplorably bad customer service and hairdressing skills by a hair stylist who had supposedly worked for many years. Futhermore, I had paid almost 200 bucks to sign up for their stupid package!!

Bottomline: Do not sign up for Jean Yip package no matter how persuasive they are... and stay away from this outlet!!!

Not me but my bestie had a bad experience at Jean Yip PS few months back.
NOTE: My bestie has a regular shaped face and is a pretty young lady.
She wanted to go for a really short haircut which she had done few times before growing back to long hair again.
But most of us (friends and colleagues) felt she is more suitable for short hair as long hair makes her look haggard.
This stylist kept disagreeing with her and saying that if she cut her hair that length then will make her face chubby and stuff like that.
Mind you, she has sharp chin and features. Where does the chubby part come in?
End up my friend just told him she is not interested in the cut anymore and just walked up and left.
I asked her why. She said she didn't trust the skills of a person who can't even see eye to eye with her.
BTW, she went to KR+ and Milliena Walk and walked out with really short hair and suits her a lot.

Well, this is not to say that all Jean Yip service is bad.
I have an ex-colleague (in her late 40s). She has been with the Tampines branch more than 7 yrs and she is very satisfied with her hairdo.

I had a friend working in causeway point Jean Yip as a hair assistant before, she quitted after two months. Their working attitude and system are really bad bad bad! I remember she told me that their conditioner and shampoo are not geninue, its like take a bit out and the rest mix with water! Reason is because they use it for themselves!! As you know, stylist there can use services free. And its expensive stuff! They didnt want to let the boss know why the stock running so fast, thus, they add water to it and wash it on customers hair! Unbelievable. Imagine customer paying for diluted treatment!

For me, i did not step one foot in any JeanYip outlet before. Why? Because whenever i pass by one JeanYip outlet, I always see those stylist crowding one corner don't know doing what and having those kind of "heck care" look! I come to realise that though Jean Yip does have the quantity in opening so many outlets, but quality is just bad! Whats the use of having so many outlets when the services are so bad! We want quality and not the quantity.

yeah i was at JY yishun once and i noticed that all the employees are like crowding around the reception doing nothing, most likely gossiping. i went there to do eyebrow contour, and it was badly done, they made me buy this gel for it which i feel tha i didn't need. it was my first time at such salon so i was did whatever they said. now, i don't go to any salon, not even the ones featured on TV coz it is one thing shown on TV like all friendly and professional, but once you actually visit the place, it is like so auntie like, no class or totally ignore customer.

My buddy just did her hair at JY Whitesands and was a disaster. She went there for a colour and a haircut and knowing that her hair is not the easy type to absorb colour, she informed the stylist beforehand and they assured her that she will get the colour she wants. Ended up, the colour was totally different! The hair cut they gave her also lasted less than 5 mins. Who cuts their hair for less than 5 mins? Even guys take longer than that!

She got so upset that she made a complain and the senior hair stylist came over and redo her hair colour for her. She ended up with the hair colour, yes, but also with scalp problem cuz the chemical was so strong that it caused itch and worse, peeling for a few days after that! And the price she paid, 200+! It's totally not worth the torture IMO!

Bad stylist (David), bad service and even worse attititude!!

I truly felt that the shampoo guy was more professional in doing his job then the bored, bo-chup and rude stylists lounging around.. what kind of attitude are they showing to customers? a haircut over there is not cheap!

i agree with silvercrown, why open so many outlets when you can't even provide a basic level of service and quality. and stealing shampoo to boot!

pinkdewy: good thing your friend got up and left!!

clovestay: did u tell them you didn't like the eyebrow contour? but even if you did, they will probably blame it on your eyebrow shape..anything as long as it's not their fault.

akaysha: your friend's experience sounds really horrible, how could they have dared use so much chemicals to cause scalp peeling! they are supposed to be trained stylists... i wouldn't dare to put my scalp under their hands after this sort of awful experience.

My experience was at JB Jean Yip, the one at City Square. I signed up for a O3 hair treatment way back in 2004 and have 1 session left. I just went before CNY to use the last one, the lady that did for me previously left so I have no choice but to make do with existing staff. They needed 6 staff to find my records, this is not a problem, the guy doing my hair is fine. Just that they just do the treatment for the sake of doing it. Ok, I will make do since this is the last session i have. He tried to sell me another package, i just told him straight off, if I need 2 year to finish a course of 6 session, do u think i will want to sign for another?

SO was bored waiting for me therefore he decided to dye his hair. The 30 odd year old lady, fearing of staining her hands, use a brush comb to dye his hair. This is still ok but she is spreading everything on his scalp. My god, how can hair dye be spread on scalp. Being a man, SO didn't bother. Most angry was she can still comment his scalp very oily, suggesting he do a scalp treatment and quoted him 2 times the price the guy was trying to sell me. The guy tried to sell me at the washing area therefore the AUNTIE didn't heard. I just told her off stating her colleague just told me another pricing. She quickly explain this one different, etc. come on, i used to do scalp treatment so often, how many different type can u have??? After my treatment, seeing the way she tried to brush the hair again and again, i just asked her loudly: AUNTIE, HOW LONG MORE U THIK NEED TO LEAVE THE HAIR DYE ON. She was so angry when i address her as AUNTIE. Haha the look on her face, worth it but no more Jean Yip for me and SO, JB or SG inclusive.

Am really disappointed with their services.

My bad experience was at Jean Yip Bishan. I just wanted a trim for my fringe and this lady(late 30s) starting snapping without even asking me how i wanted to trim

After snapping I look into the mirror and commented some parts looks slightly eneven and she insisted I look good in it

She is just plain too lazy to redo and she has her other customers to attend!

yes i totally agree jean yip cannot make it.. i cut my hair there once and ended up with hair that was too layered and sticking out everywhere!!

I prefer Kimage much more, for something that is superior in quality and yet still slightly cheaper!!

I had bad experiences with Jean Yip as well. Many years ago I went to one of their branches and got Relaxing done. Its straightening of the hair and that's before rebonding came out. My hair is totally fried.

Last month, after much persuasion from my friend who insisted Jean Yip at JB is good, I went with him and got my hair dyed. They keep piling dye on my scalp!!! End up its so uneven cuz the hair nearest to the scalp got dyed, following that is a big patch of my original colour and after that is new dye and I seriously don't know what to do with it. ARGH!! What's best is they discourage me from choosing red and ask me take another colour which turn out to be exact colour of what I previously had. If its even, I don't really mind but its not!! A month later I went to colour bar and got my hair redye and the girl thought I did a DIY job with it as its so horrible, whats more I only paid a third of what I pay Jean Yip and got a really prefect dye job.

    I'll never trust them again

Hey, I had this problem too when I went jean yip at century square for a haircut 3-4yrs ago! I still remember it was a bengish stylist with tattoos whom cut the hair for me and it was totally over layered! In the end my hair turned out so messy and overly 'pong' that I had to spend money rebonding my untidy mane. I NEVER go back to jeanyip ever since

OMG! I'm so shocked after reading this thread!
To me, Jean Yip always radiated some high-class air. I have a voucher, but I'm afraid to use, lest they mess up my poor already badly battered hair!
