~Bread for breakfast and lunch SOTD~

Slatkin Black Fig and Absinthe. Finally...thanks to Nicole

The fig is not pronouced. Ghostly. It seems to appear for a few seconds before disppearing. Usually when this happens, it's being replaced by the once familiar Lolita Lempicka. Not forgetting that bitter-sweetness. Nothing sweet for me but this is an exception. Dark and mysterious. I can just imagine an outfit to go with this scent. Pant 'power' suits with pointy killer heels. A straight no-nonsense face to finish it off. Sexy...

girls, i have a question is Van Cleef and Arpels a "luxury"/"prestigious" parfum line?? basically what i'm asking is if it was worth buying their fragrances

i bought one for my boyfriend and i'm not too sure if i made the right choice i suppose i still can exchange it, i'm also considering Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio and Polo RL Blue

It's quite hard to classify, islande. Van Cleef and Arpels is a jewellery brand and I suppose it's just a trend of late for brand houses to start their fragrance line, like Tiffany?? However I'm sure their perfumes are not that çheap'too. Murmure doesn't fall in the category for 'çheap'. Was told it was sold at $80++ at the last Luxasia sale.

Ummm...how do you actually define 'boutique fragrances' and 'designer fragrances? There's no definite one in my humble opinion.

Did I answer your question? :sotong: I just thought that if it's a scent that you really like, it doesn't matter what brand it is.

hey gal, I haven't see a 'lousy'perfume anywhere Maybe just those that turns up really bad on me. Classic example: Alexander McQueen's Kingdom makes me smell like BO Some reminds me of that evil teacher that I had when I was in Primary One. Total bad vibes.

Which did you get? Why are you having buyer's remorse? Maybe you can update me in the Daily Rant thread

    SOTD: YSL M7.

I don't think any of the designer houses would make low-quality perfumes - they've got a reputation to maintain, after all. Unfortunately, when it comes to perfumes, I do think price is a pretty good yardstick by which to judge quality. Actually, I had the same thoughts as Rachel - would your bf like it? Would you enjoy smelling it on him? Scents can be so subjective, there are some perfumes that I just can't like, no matter high the quality or the price.

Saresha, what's YSL M7 like? woody smoky type?

hmm... if i don't really fancy smelling it on myself much, i suppose it would mean i wouldn't like smelling it on HIM right?

    thanks for the advice.

M7: Bergamot, Mandarin, Rosemary, Vetiver, Agarwood, Amber, Musk, Mandrake root.

Not one of your light citrusy cologne type scents. Quite strong - a spritz is enough for me. Agarwood and amber are resins rather than actual woods, and have a sweetness to them (unlike cedar and sandalwood). It's not to everyone's taste, but some find it sexy

If you don't like a fragrance, there's still a chance it may work on your bf due to different body chemistry. More importantly, what kind of scents does he like? I get the impression that many Singapore men prefer fresh citruses (unless they're perfume junkies like us).

    ~Ouch...I twisted my ankle SOTD~

Jil Sander Sensation. Down to last drop. I can't imagine this is the second perfume after Bvlgari Extreme that I actually use up a bottle. I actually have matching body lotion and hair mist for this.

I'm sitting on the fence. Should I get a new bottle? :choice:

Just thought I share...I realised that there is a general misconception that the amber in perfume ingredients is generally mistaken as a form of wood. They are resins but derived from rockroses (a flower). The derived resins are finally called ladanumm, a highly coveted oil. Its scent is similar to ambergris.

Ambergris is thought to be formed in the intestines of sperm whale. Actually they are 'puke' that can be found floating on the shores. Terribly uncommon and expensive. There was a story on how sailors found this 'puke' but I can't exactly remember the story now. Need to go back and check my books.

Glossie, I can't be sure how may Jil Sanders there are. However I do remember a Jil Sander Sensations for Men which comes in a blue bottle too. Jil Sander for ladies is a peachy colur. HTHs

Mich-> In nature, civet is taken from Ethopian(sp???) civet cat. However I'm not very sure if other species are kept solely for this reason as well.

Civet is a powerful fixative and very commonly used. Don't be too alarmed at this fact .

There was a recent hoo-hah created by PETA regarding the use of civet and major fragrance houses. Don't take PETA's business too seriously. No offense to animal lovers out there.
