hi guys!
im mulling over JAE. =/ I applied for TP and SP's visual communications, as well as intending to apply for NAFA and Lasalle.
Just wondering, and would appreciate if you guys could give some suggestions..
1. If I get into a polytechnic (with the course of my choice), should I still proceed with NAFA and Lasalle application? I know since I chose the poly course, I should be happy.. But there's still this part of me wondering if going to an Arts school for a diploma in Design would be better, and another part thinking that a poly is better since it's local and i get to join CCAs. Although in Lasalle/NAFA, i could do a degree for a year after getting a dip....
2. Lasalle Portfolio/interview
I took art in secondary school and JC. But those were mainly drawings and paintings as such. However, im interested in Design Comm in Lasalle, so I'm wondering if you guys have any portfolio tips catered towards the course of my choice? Like what should I churn out and all that. I've also noted that Lasalle has this portfolio workshop for people with no arts bg.. and i intend to check it out too.
And for the interview.. is there anything i needa take note of? Like what to do/what to expect..
Thanks in Adv!
RP has a School of Technology & Arts, you might want to check out their modules to see if there is any that interest you. I would go through JAE first to see what are being offered to me before I decide whether to take up courses in LaSalle or NAFA because the latter are expensive! I have heard about their 1-year degrees before and I also heard the Nafa one is recognised. Sorry I can't help that much but if finances is a factor, suggest to look at poly courses first.
Just to take note.
Nafa and Lasalle are private institutions with government education subsidy.
If you intend to become a designer in Singapore, a degree is not required in the industry.
The degree is meant for educational teaching purposes.
In design industry, we only look into portfolio.
As for the interviewing process in Lasalle, as long you can draw stlll life, have a sense
of perspective drawing. i think is alright.
Do not fret about the interview.

artichoke: RP is really too far for me. I'm already dreading SP's distance as i live near Tamp. haha.
popdod: what about the student life in lasalle? it's better too right? =/ i heard that its a tad more freedom as compared to a poly...
Since you are living near Tamp. You should consider TP visual comm dept.
Their designs are very good...from what i see their past yrs grad show.
Freedom?? i'm not very sure..
If i'm choosing which institutions...I'm more concern on the course syllabus.
TP will be a better choice, lesser course fees, less travelling time & proven track record
of producing good design students.

Yeah, i've heard good things about TP Vis Comm. Haha, it's my first choice anyway. So if i get in... which i hope *crosses fingers* , because I miss the COP by 2 points =/, i would give lasalle a skip i guess.
my next 2 choices are SP's Vis comm and NYP's Vis comm. Mad far! But how are the design courses like in these 2 schs? Thanks alot popdod!
Not too sure about the fees... I always have the perception that private schools are more expensive but if there is government subsidy, no harm taking a look at LaSalle or NAFA's modules.
Am a TP alumnus (but not from Design), I love TP's culture.
Fees are alright *** haha. I just got my posting. Sadly, I didn't get in tp or SPI got in NYP and I guess I'm more certain that lasalle is a better choice. (not putting nyp down, just that it's really far and all that)
Is there a way to reject the posting? And say if I go nyp, then I drop out to lasalle in this yr, can I still apply for TG for lasalle?
I'm still feeling quite bummed out=\
I too, got posted to a poly not within my line of choices. Was feeling Super down for like 2 days, but that just got me motivated to apply for Lasalle too, as I was tempted to before the posting results.
In fact they have a portfolio workshop this Feb/March which Im definitely gonna sign up for. You should too, start on the admin work soon!
Fluffyang: me too! I'm going for the feb workshop.. Gonna apply for it after CNY. yeah, the feeling after the posting results were just horrible. Hope you're better nowwe might be school mates!

I shot you a PM, do tell me if you didn't receive it!
fluffyang, yep yep, PMed back(:
thanks for everything guys (:
Hey! I'm so sorry 4 the late reply, I have been travelling! Really sorry!
Anyway I've just received my confirmation for my place for this Feb's workshop. Judging from what you said, I'm guessing you're enrolling for March's? Just to remind you, application registration closes in April so your portfolio has to be really speedy during March! When I went to the campus to apply they immediately set up an interview date for me!
That got me big time, so that's why I jumped for this Feb's workshop. I also talked to the clerke there and she said that the success rate for applicants entering diploma courses is around 98% (So far she has only seen 2 ppl drop out of it). So I hope that seals your confidence. Good luck! As long as you show a keen and valid interest within your field, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't pass! (Or that's what I try to tell myself, haha)
And wow, what a story! You know, I'm attempting the same "mode of forfeit" for poly as you! Cheers to that, I don't intend on setting foot to my posted poly at all. So tell me about the portfolio workshop results, in my opinion, best to get your ass down to Lasalle ASAP cause acc to my email, there seems to be less than 20 ppl! ? Totally limited!
And do tell me your name! I'd love to address you properly in the future, cause currently you're just a nameless person I bagged online!
P.S: I tried PM-ing you but there's an error, to my horror!?
Do PM your personal email and I'll reply to that ASAP!
