Hey hey,
i'm taking lvl 1 in Dec. Have friends who took it and it's really not easy. First step is to register yourself.
http://www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprog/register/index.html
Then you'll get textbooks in the mail. If you sign up for courses at Kaplan (at Somerset Starhub centre) they have the Schwezer textbooks as well, which is supposed to be helpful.
I actually crashed a couple of classes there before (friend brought me in), but find that lectures don't work on me. Prefer to mug it myself.
i'm taking it in december... in my understanding, cfa exam is the same everywhere isn't it? correct me if i'm wrong![]()
Kaplan is using schweser which are just study notes. Even if you sign up with schweser ( for their revision classes) , you still need to register with cfa institute for the cfa exam. You will get the cfai textbooks ( 6 heavy books in all) that comes free with the registration. My strategy is to read schweser notes first and use cfai text to fill in the gaps as schweser might be brief for some stuff ( especially for the ss on bonds, how can u know how to amortiize a bond without working a table????)
Schweser is fantastic for quantitative analysis though. Try to be familiarised with the cfa calculator, it will help to save precious time during the exam.Time Value of Money will appear everywhere. Very important to know it inside out. tap on the knowledge of www.analystforum.com . There are good explanations on tough sections ( like financial statement analysis)
My personal view is reading cfai textbooks is for the knowledge but you will not be able to remember all the details in the book. Schweser notes help in retention of the concepts. if possible, get Q bank as it helps to further reinforce the concepts. dun know whether this method work, i will tell u after 29th july if i pass the level 1 exam.
By the way, does anyone know what is the test date for the dec paper, in case i nid to retake.
Hey hey ladies, sorry i *** check back this forum in a while.
the Dec exam is on 6th Dec. I haven't registered yet!! haha... I've been procrastinating. But my bf bought me the Schweser guidebooks from HK, so I started studying those first.
Bella Vida, from what I know vaguely, if you sign up with Kaplan, total damage is like 3k plus plus, inclusive of Schweser guides and classes and revision sessions.
If you're going as a private candidate, it's only 1k plus plus. Exact amount I have no idea. Anyone who plonked down the $ knows??
If you're signing up, see you at Expo hall in Dec!
hey i checked the cfa calendar http://www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprog/.../calendar.html
In asia, the exam date is 7th dec for asia, 6th dec for US.
btw, anyone nid schweser stuff , pm me. i have the soft copy.
Hi babes, jus saw this thread! I'm doing the CFA level 1 this dec too. was wondering which guide books should i buy? i know theres the schweser & stalla.. any cotters can recommend which is better? im currently ploughing though the texts & its TEDIOUS!
the registration price depends on when you sign up for the exam. the later your sign up, the more expensive it is. i paid around 1000USD. you can find out from the CFA webbie.
thanks cfapinkpanther! i do plan to get the CD.. seems very useful! though still cant decide which guide books to get. btw where can i find the schweser guide? i'm currently attending lecs by CFA sg institute & they use stalla.. & of coz they recommend stalla. however, as you & loads of other ppl are using scheweser, im also considering that too.
