communication and mass comm can be quite different, mass comm focuses on media whereas a bachelor of arts in communication focuses on comm theory. the former is based on modules that teaches how to deal with the media whereas BAC, is more on the communication process itself such as interpersonal, intercultural or organizational, it includes media as well but it is only a small portion of the entire syllabus.

hi luxelolita, thanks for your reply.
anyone knows how many students will there be approximately in a class? i notice almost all the modules are 50% assignments and 50% exams. so it means i have to take 4 exams each semester if i want to take the full load, right? |

For exam-based modules, there will be an online quiz (20%), a group assignment (30%) which is what they call a TMA(tutor-marked assignment) and the exam paper (50%). Some modules have no exam. So they will have an online quiz (20%), a group assignment i.e. TMA (30%) and an individual assignment (50%) and usually, the individual assignment consists of a report, powerpoint presentation slides & a video (showing yourself giving a presentation). I think for most people, most of the modules are exam-based. I'm taking Bachelor in Human Resource Management now and currently taking 3 exam-based modules and 1 non-exam module. So i will be sitting for 3 papers in November...it depends on how you choose your modules. It's best not to take 4 written papers at one go but it will come to a point where it's unavoidable because most modules are exam-based. Just remember to choose your modules carefully. Look at the timetable of the modules and the exam timetable very very carefully. You don't want to end up with 3 modules in term 1 and 1 module in term 2 or having exams one after another

brandedcarrie You will be able to download the module timetable as well as the exam and uni-core timetable (in pdf formats) when you are accepted and choosing your modules for that semester.

Glossie This semester I took Action Learning. It consists of 1 discussion session and 1 closed book online quiz - which you have to do it at the lab in school. It's this coming Saturday, in fact.
![]() The discussion session is actually pretty interesting. I admit, I did think it would be boring, but the unique way how we learned to discuss and solve someone's problem in a group. I've heard that Creative Thinking (or was it writing ...) is really easy too, but I don't think they are offering it anymore. ![]() OK I feel like a dumb blond now ... how do I register my courses for Jan 09? Thanks! |

Thanks for responding, gal!
Actually, Creative Thinking is still offered, until 2012, as per what I got from the portal. I coudn't access the link on my work computer so I haven't seen how it's supposed to be like, the registration. I've heard that the Math or FP one is easy. Any more inputs would be much appreciated. TIA again.

FP = Personal Financial Planning? I have 2 course mates that took that before, one of them took it this semester. They didn't suggest taking it, because it comes with 3 projects.
![]() If creative thinking is still being offered, I'd take that! Personally, I'd skip anything that includes projects. |

Hi gals, i took both Thinking With Mathematics and Personal Financial Planning
Thinking With Mathematics is pretty easy to me. I've tried the Mock exam online without revising anything & scored an incredible 90. Not sure if the real exam will be this easy thou I've registered for my Jan '09 modules already. Xiaomantou, before you register, you have to decide how many credit units you wish to take in Jan '09 semester. If you choose to take 20 credit units, when you are registering for the modules, you can choose up to 30 credit units (whether its Core/Compulsory or Elective). UCore modules (for example Creative Thinking, Critial Thinking, Effective Communication etc) do not count towards the credit units you intend to take. Is this confusing for you? If you choose to take 20 credit units for Jan '09 semester, tick the modules accordingly. After that, choose another 10 credit units. These 10 credit units are backup units in case any of your chosen 20 credit units are not available anymore due to class quota. So when you choose your preferred 20 credit units, you need to rank them according to preference & number them as 1, 2, 3 & so on. HTHs! |
