    Anyone taking the GMAT?

I'm wondering if anyone out there is taking the GMAT? I've just signed up for it -- after many years of postponement. Exam date is less than a month away on 3rd March - Hoping to have the results in time for applications.

I'm not feeling very confident especially when I keep on hearing about local Chinese getting 780 or 750 over 800. My experience with test papers have been more on the 550-600 level. Major eeks.

It will be good to hear from people who've taken this exam before. Any tips ? Could do with some sort of support. TIA.

    Default All about GMAT

Hello, is anyone here taking GMAT or considering taking GMAT? I have several questions here, would really appreciate any advice I can get! Thanks.

    1. What is considered a good score for GMAT (good enough to apply to top business schools)?

    2. Are GMAT preparatory classes helpful in attaining a better score?

    3. How do the local universities fare as compared to the overseas universities? I'm referring to the value/'prestige' of the MBA attained and the future employment opportunities.

a good score for GMAT would be 750 or more over 800. the higher the better of course. it also depends which school's MBA you go into, the GMAT is just an indication of your language standard to them

i didnt go for classes so i cant comment bout that. but i think if you're ok at self study, classes are not necessary- just like the SAT

most people i know get their MBAs from overseas. people still feel that overseas MBAs are better although IMO, NTU's MBA is not bad, ranked 61st in the world iirc. alternatively, MBAs from america are widely sought after, maybe you can try that too. the expenses wouldnt be that high too since you're only spending about 2 years there.

soliloquy3 & happybean : Thanks a lot for your valuable input! Am interested in INSEAD, but probably looking at next year's intake. But it's highly competitive, so being accepted for the programme is still a big if.

    Hey everyone!

I'm studying for the GMAT now! I am so surprised to see a thread here. Because further studies is not that big in Singapore. I'm looking at doing an MBA in the East or West coast of the US in fall 2008. Just want to check if anyone here is thinking of doing that too?

Also, anyone care to share on how to improve the GMAT score? Is there any courses that I can attend? Because I really need to score well to gain entry to a decent grad school.

    hi Blackcat,

hope my reply is not too late. I just got enrolled into a Uni in US, will be leaving soon.

Are you still studying for your GMAT now or is it already over? I didnt take up any prep course for GMAT but i had been trying out all the past years questions. I didnt get a fantastic score, was quite worried that will affect my application, but thank God that i still manage to get in. I think not only GMAT is important, your GPA is one major criteria when they consider your application.

When are you going? Have you gotten your student visa yet? I have a friend who will also be going to US and was wondering how long it takes to get the visa processed.

hi crackerjack, i am going in Aug, but i had yet to get my student visa yet. I am still waiting for my I-20 immgration documents from the school as i will need that for my visa application. I am not sure how long it takes to get the visa processed. I read from the website that it is best to apply more than 1 month before the date of travelling.

Has your friend gotten his I-20 immigration documents already?
