    Default Private Schools

    1) My bf has a diploma in mech engg from Ngee Ann poly. His results were v.good was was rejected by NUS & NTU. He thought of applying a degree program in Uni of South Wales which wil be opening their shool next year. He's very worried whether his cert will be recognized by S'pore companies. This south wales uni was invited by MM Lee Kuan Yew to set up their sch here. Schools like Uni of South Australia, new castle etc... are they recognised here? Any one knows of friends who studied Engg in these private schools holding a gd post? My bf wish to apply to SIA for an engg job after graduating but is confused as to whether his deg will be recognised. Need some help in this matter !!!!

    2) This 2 yr deg programme costs S$58,000 which is very ex so do you guys know of any loan company / bank which offers very low interest or no interest ????? There are private sch which offer cheaper engg degree programmes but he's afraid to take it up incase its not recognised so he thought he rather apply for Uni SW degree as this sch was invited by LKY.. Any views on this?

    Thanks!!

His course fee is $58,000 for 2 years deg program. He feels that its very expensive

    Hi,

I've interned in the public sector before, in the HR section dealing with recruitment. As far as I know (better double-check on this) in where I worked for degrees from such private schools are not acknowledged... they'll only count degrees from local unis or overseas unis (that is, if you really go overseas and study there full-time). Not so sure about SIA. Maybe you can check out how much it costs to actually go to Aussie to study instead, maybe it'll be more worth it especially when $58000 for a 2-year course isn't very cheap!

I've heard that the DBS study loan for degree in NUS is interest-free when you're studying... so interest only sets in after you've graduated. It's quite flexible, maybe you can check it out.

    HTHs!

How abt SIM university? Is it recognised in the public sector?

I think UNSW may offer some 0% credit card installments like some private institute here.

actually UNSW is one of the few top uni in Aust so i think it will be recognised. IMO, as long as the degrees are from reputable unis, its worth to study & are companies will be willing to accept & recognise these degrees.

That's a very good website. Just to add.

Uni of New South Wales is one of the world top 500 uni and the top 8 in Australia. No worries about it getting not recognised.

Actually the school fee of S$58,000 is not ex in terms of Australia uni international student price. It's quite the norm. In fact, I think it's slightyly cheaper here. But of course you're also paying for the reputation of the uni. There are other private uni in Singapore that offers better price than that.

Maybe he should go and find out the different uni available and do a comparision and find what suits him best. Actually, why don't he try to apply again for the next NUS/NTU intake? If his results are good, he should be get it. Sometimes it depends on luck that you didn't get it. Try again. smile.gif The fees of NUS/NTU is definitely much cheaper for locals.

Which Uni will you actually sign up with?

Cos I came by this school called Buckingham University from UK.
The consultant told me that I can actually go to MOE website to see that the school is actually recognized by Singapore MOE.

I'm just afraid that if I sign up, next time I change a job or even for my current job, my company or other company don't recognized it....

The information is that Diploma + Advanced diploma is S$9600, Bachelor is S$21000...
2 years for the above mentioned.. I scared that this is a gimmick.

I've not heard of the national student survey but the ranking in my previous post is the one used by NUS/NTU.
