May i know the details about this position? How is the pay like and what are the working hours? Any prospects or a dead-end job? Which banks should i be looking at if i were to join?

Many thanks in advance for your inputs..

you can try local banks like DBS or UOB and working hours could rnage from 830-600 (depending whether the branch traffic) Branches usually close @ 4 but there are still lots of back end processing work to be done after banking hours.. Salary wise: not very sure. But if u want to climb up the corporate ladder in the financial industry, do go and take courses to upgrade yourself as to increase the markey value

actually being a bank teller nowadays is not that simple anymore.

some of the bad pts being a teller :

asides to the normal dep, wdl of money and remittances u still need to introduce the bank investment products to cust and try to refer them to the sales consultants. Of cos there are commission to be earn for successful cases but then again, u might be given a target to hit - diff bank diff practises... on wkends, u might also need to attend roadshows.

also on cust, no doubt there are many nice n understanding cust ard, there are also many nasty n demanding custs who can be harsh on u... so u must be patient as not to 'quarrel' with the cust.

after banking hrs, u still need to do admin work so not just kp the money n can leave the bank..

overall is still not so bad if u enjoy meeting pple and can handle stress cos sometimes the variable bonus can be gd...

wow.. sounds exciting to me.. but still can't start with my first step. Afraid to go for an interview.

Actually, I'm stuck with my 1st job after grad. Thinking very hard to step out.. but scared that I cant make it.. cos different field. Me studying engineering course, ended up in an IT co now. Then stuck here for 1.7yrs. Very puzzled. ****.. really hope to get into banking industries now. Dunno which bank is advisable.

One of my friend said local bank not very good, cos got alot of politics but seems easiler to get in. However, lower chance of promoting. How true is it?

actually in banking industries all very politics one.. so no matter which bank, it's the same..
the diff in joining local n foreign banks, i think would be the benefits wise ba..
anyway, if u are going to get into banking industries then what is the position u wanna get into? cos banking got so many diff dept n positions... front line, back end...

n also u do not have any experience, i believe the salary wise, unless u r really into banking industries, will be quite low from the beginning..

so do consider carefully b4 changing..

Sorry for the late reply. I did not start out as a bank teller but i am also in the banking industry doing analysis. Ya. Banking industry is quite political but you have to see what do you want to do? if a bank jobs pays you well and you can ignore all politcs and just treat your working environment as a place that earns your pay chq. Then that alright!

I'm actually looking into a mid-life career change..crazy huh, but it's true. Having been in the financial futures industry for the last 12yrs have started to take its toll on me. V hard to venture out into other areas cos all interviewers keep asking, why don't i go back to my previous line? I just need a change...

Is it easier if there is someone whom i know that could recommend me into this job? Cos nowadays, it seems harder to land a job without knowing someone who's already in the company itself, ie referral or something like that.

Have also thought of becoming a teacher. But being a diploma holder, i've to go thru 2 yrs of training at NIE, lol, and that means travelling to NTU everyday for the next 2 yrs from the East where i'm staying..

    ****.....i'm in a rut...

But really pretty serious about the bank teller job tho, a little unambitious right? lol

    its not unambitiious...

pay wise would be at least $1.2k or $1.3k for dip holder.. if u work hard enough, incentives + commission + OT, can bring back about $2k..

if u have some exp in banking, then the pay might be higher...

working hrs are normally ard 8 or 8.30 to 5plus 6... but if the br u are at is always bz.. then might stay later than that.. or if ur br operates at a later time, then workin hrs will be about 9+ 10 to about 7 or 8.. expect roadshows on most wkend...

well, if ur performance is really very gd, then there are chances of being promoted to an officer..which will means better pay but of cos job scope will be diff..

as the position for bank tellers is always in demand, so u can jus submit ur CV to the bank u prefer... not really a need for pple to refer u in..

ya, bank teller has training for you to learn the ropes, otherwise as a customer service consultant is also another option to get into the banking industry.

Have applied to all the local banks lol..hopefully can get a reply from any of them. Don't mind starting from the bottom though my parents and hubby all think i'm crazy not to pursue my familiar career field. I hope i'm doing the right thing here, just thought i should get out and do something else cos have been doing the same thing my whole working life.

I am praying hard for a response, so afraid that they will overlook me cos of my age, going for fresh school leavers instead who're in their prime and easily 'moldable'.. ..crossing my fingers till they're twisted lol..

Thanks for the info and advices, cotters, really appreciate the inputs.
