I volunteer with the CDAC.. i think they are a great organization to volunteer with. They even have a volunteer's newsletter every few months and activities for volunteers and friends to join.
Have their website only in office..but maybe you can google it. They have various types of activities like ad hoc activities for the busy people, long term teaching and mentoring..
The last time i volunteered..they even gave me an allowance for bus fare and lunch money.. and when you see the people that you are helping..those single parents with like 600 bucks monthly income.. it's quite gratifying
anybody volunteer/ interested to volunteer @ SPCA?? and how to get there by the way![]()
i'm interested in volunteering for children but i faced the same problem as i will get too emotional with the sick children.. and i would like to help at children's home too and interact with the kids
Hi! I get emotional when talking to the elderly too. Guess its something we have to get used too when volunteering![]()
u can browse www.tzuchi.org.sg for more information....they have many volunteer opportunities..
Anyone interested to do their part for the environment contact me! I'm a member of the Waterways Watch Society.. More information at www.wws.org.sg![]()

anyone has information on volunteering overseas?
Hi, u can try www.sif.org.sg ...i signed up once to volunteer for the tsunami aid some years back, but due to work commitments, was unable to go. You might find relevant information there.Originally Posted by reldyn
Hi reldyn,
I'm also interested in doing some overseas volunteer work too! Perhaps we can keep each other in the loop if we've found anything and even go together if schedule permits.
I've browsed through the SIF site, is a specialisation a requirement? I'm in Banking/Finance, doubt my work experience is applicable. I was thinking of volunteering in areas like building a school, playground or teaching young kids...

Hi..I am actually more interested in taking care of the animals rather than admin work. However, I heard that there's an age prerequisite to do that, ie, you need to be at least 21 years old? Is it true?Originally Posted by fionabx
i believe so that the age limit is 21.. i think website will state the age requirements
why dont you guys look at the habitatforhumanity website as well? they have many volunteering opportunities and you can even organise your own trips if you have the time. many of the trips require a mentor of at least 21 years old, so perhaps you can tag along on organised trips as a mentorage is not a problem from what i remember.
for SIF, you dont need to have a specialisation, i'm a student but i organised a trip to chiang mai to build water purification tanks--> the people there and the villagers will largely help you along, in fact, sometimes i think we are more of a nuisance than help.
also, for SIF, the trip is heavily subsidised, so it may be something you might want to consider. HTH![]()
Waterh2o: sure, i'll keep you informed.
i'm not really keen on going with a big group because i'm a person who likes peace and quiet most of the time. i also don't tend to open up alot.
actually, i'm thinking of going to cambodia to work with children because my job requires me to deal with children, so i've experience with them. i don't mind doing stuff like cleaning as well because i realise that it is through helping others that we get the chance to find ourselves.
i hope it doesn't sound selfish.
has anyone gone to cambodia on volunteer trips?
Drunken_Donuts, thanks for the link, but i can't find an ongoing-trip there.
ETA: i just found this link through a friend!

Description: Volunteers teach curious and lively children and youths on the use of the English language in a village school. This will improve their chances of getting a better job in future and contribute to the country to the fullest of their potential. Volunteers are needed 4 hours to 5 hours a day on weekdays only.
Siam Reap is situated within the ruins of the ancient Khmer civilization, often collectively referred to as Angkor ***, the name of the largest and best-restored temple. The ruins were re-discovered in 1860, and were found engulfed by jungle. It then attracted intrepid explorers and awed archaeologists. These days, although you no longer have to depend on a trustworthy elephant or use a machete to get to see the ruins, they still provide the perfect destination for anyone with a sense of adventure or a taste for history. The monuments were constructed by a succession of Khmer kings between the 9th and 15th century, mostly as places of worship. The prevailing religion shifted from Hinduism to Buddhism and back again over the years. So, the temples are usually decorated with a diverse array of icons with smiling Buddhas sitting alongside the four-armed Vishnu.
Within the town of Siam Reap, you will find many shops, restaurants, cybercafes etc, to spend your time during your off days. You may also wish to explore a little further to visit Phnom Penh and its killing fields, the Tonle Sap Great Lake and many others. If you are there during the festivals, join the locals in their celebrations. For volunteers who are interested in visiting other developmental sites/efforts prior or after your volunteer stint, you may wish to sign up for a fully guided tour offered by UP.

Reldyn, Thanks!![]()
Same here, i'm not that keen to go in a large group. My main purpose is to do something meaningful and give a helping hand to anyone who needs it. But of course, getting to know other like minded friends along the way too.
What Volunteeringabroad's site offers is what i've in mind.. any idea if it's "safe?
soliloquy3,Thanks for sharing that a specialization is not a requirement. I've never volunteered out of Singapore before, therefore a little apprehensive on other volunteer sources, feeling more comfortable and secure with SIF. habitatforhumanity looks interesting too.
