Domain Registration/Web Hosting

Did a search on the forum but couldn't seem to generate any results. Me and my friends were just thinking of setting up a webpage and all to sell our wares and we were wondering where is the best place/server to register our domain with, or do we even need to in the first place?

Any of you guys have a website up and running/ have any experience/ideas in this area of getting the website up? Do lemme know what you think!

registering a domain's easy.. it will be done by the host company. firstly, just choose your domain

my domain is here.. havent updated it for some time though.. used it previously for project purposes but too busy to do anything to it..

Having your own domain will add credibility to your business. Domain is very cheap nowadays so no harm in having one. I put all of mine at namecheap.com, but I also hear good reviews about godaddy.com.

To get your website up, first you need to purchase a hosting plan then point your domain to the host. Your webhost should be able to guide you on that. You can go with local or foreign webhosting company but make sure that they have good support. And I mean VERY GOOD support because you don't want to find out that your site is down in the middle of the night but there's no one answering your helpdesk ticket.

A few days ago I got one up and running in under 1 hours, and I am a total website idiot. You can checkout bravehost. That is the most user friendly I could find. You can purchase your own domain from them and host it there for under 10 bucks a month. If you are as cheapskate as me, you can try out their free website hosting and subdomain (?- not sure if this is the correct way to say) What I love about that place is I get all the ''web-developer's tools'' free.. counters, calenders etc etc and even the joke of the day. They also have ''themes'' already done, you just need to choose your templates and dump your text/graphics. and I do not see viagra advert all over.

i've been with sgdomain for about 4 years now and they're very reliable. you can sign up with domain registration and webhosting with them. they're not the cheapest but compared to others like iwi, they give you very good customer service.

it's true owning a domain of your own will add credibility to your business. it shows a tad of professionalism. come up with a domain name and run through to see if it's available. .com will be the best choice, if you can. i registered my domain at usd6.49 annually. then there's webhosting. surf/hunt around for something that suits your needs. probably for a start you needn't require much webspace. hope that helps!

I recommend FocusHub, for good web hosting plans and customer service. They have a local server and they offer a number of domain extensions to choose from. So far have recommended them to a few friends and clients and no complaints so far!

basically, webhosting company only provides the webspace. all the rest is DIY. i guess the worst scenerio would be the crashing of the webserver
