cos contract is short, ranging from a few months to 2 years. they don't have to compenstate u like perm should they decided to terminate them. some sort like that ..
I had a previous encounter with kelly services as well for my previous job. Its a contract job on a one year basis. However, contract staff are treated similar to permanent staff, however we are not given medical benefits and such. However, there is a end of contract bonus (similar to your normal 13th month bonus) and you are given a choice to renew the contract.
Similarly, as mentioned earlier, a contract job might lead you o something better. Some of my colleagues asked for internal transfer to other departments and were given permanent staff status.
So, I guess the current trend is that....do be open to contract jobs as they are not as bad as it sounds.![]()
Headcount refers to the number of employees in the company, I think. When they freeze it, means that on paper they only employ that many people. But actually they have more people working for them, except those are contract or temp positions. So they won't have to give out more benefits if they decide to terminate/retrench workers.Originally posted by Dewy
thanks! i get a clearer picture now but what is headcount? geez i dont know such terms..
my friend told me contract sometimes its because the company want to save $..i dont get what she mean though...
can somebody explain? thanks!!
am i right to say sometimes it is the company way of saving $ by offering contract?
so that they can terminate once contract is over without providing benefits eg. bonus
and there is no annual leave thereafter if your contract is renewed?
I think they save money for taxation purposes, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
But if you are contract staff, when the company gives out performance bonus or company's bonus as in profit sharing, you won't be entitled to that.
It really depends on the terms and conditions of the contract cos every company offers different things. Just be sure to check, and if you don't think you like it, then don't take the job![]()
thanks..some of the agencies i been to are kind of pushy, kept persuading me to accept contract ones insisting their perm jobs consist of all contract ones
but i am really uncomfortable with it..
i agree that adecco is like really slowww. the consultants don't follow up after they sent u for an interview, probably they did, but they don't call and inform you and you have to keep calling and it's REALLY difficult to get them, either out to meet clients, lunch, on the phone blah blah...Originally posted by chiri
Dewy: IMO, adecco is a little slow in payment and finding jobs. had to keep calling them and ask about the status of the job on my previous part time job.. and the person is like always busy. :shout:
my friend had a bad experience with kelly services too.. they kept giving excuses when she tried to claim for transport (it's stated on the back of the time sheet that the employee can claim transport from them if they are doing OT till after 10pm). in the end my friend had to pay the cab fees herself. and she got a call from the top management which gave her quite a hard time.. :piss:
not sure of any good agencies though.. hope you get your job soon!![]()

Moreover, they tend to be quite 'rude' at times. I really didn't have a good experience with adecco.
Another one of my friend did a contract/temp job with adecco, she said that their payment is quite 'screwed', always deduct a lot for CPF, she's also very blur bout how they pay, but only knows that after adecco deducted the cpf, she's left with peanuts.
omg..im visiting around 5 agencies tomorrow 2 are adecco 2 are recruit express..
i hope none of them do this to me..*touch wood*
your friend didn't ask and get clarification?Originally posted by scribbles

i agree that they've screwed up payments.. the second paycheque i got from them was less than the calculated amount and the first one.. and so i called them up and asked.. they say cause it's during normal time (ie: not school holiodays) so they'll deduct cpf.. and they'll not deduct cpf if it's the school holidays.. i was like
dewy: good luck to you! but i think not all of the staff are like that..![]()
My agency told me something like according to the law, below $500 they will not deduct CPF from ur pay, employer still have to contribute .. once ur pay hit $700, they will deduct, but not the full 20% ..
miracle: is it? didn't know! but i was like doing part time.. anyway the agency didn't explain themselves clearly.. :shout:
if it hits $700, they'll deduct how much lesser than the 20%?
is there anywhere online to check such guidelines?
Yep. Because for my last job, i asked my agency not to deduct CPF (i worked for a few weeks only), but they told me they have to adhere by the rules .. think they're deduct around 12% - 15%? Roughly around here ..
u can check up the CPF guideline book or whatever or maybe go CPF webby and check it out.
ok! thanks a million girl!
will go take a look!
I just get a admin job from one of the agency as she told me i will be deduct 20% from my salary to CPf. The employer will contribution 13% for my cpf. overall are 33%.
i don't have good encounter with recruit express because i told them i wanted a S$6/hour temporary assignment and that silly consultant though he is cute looking only gave me S$5.50/hour .... i have stated clearly on the application form. on the actual day i actually wanted to turn down but then since i had nothing to do at home so i took up the assignment...i have blacklist them ever since then![]()
