Becareful of some recruitment agencies - in a bid to get you to take up a temporary job - lie to you about the extension of a contract.
One recruitment agency (HINT: The very infamous one), called me up to tell me there is a temp-to-perm job in a local MNC. He told me that although they are paying per-hour basis for the position and it's only 1 month, the company has told him they will convert me to permanent position if i do perform satisfactorily in the job.
Hearing this, it made me interested to head down for the interview and boy, am i glad i did! That agent totally lied through his teeth. I asked the interviewer is it true that after 1 month temp, there is a possibility to convert me to permanent. She was surprised and asked if i did not know it was only a 1 month temp job. I told her the agent mentioned it to me about conversion as well. She then clarified that she has NEVER told the agent that there is a possiblity of conversion simply because they were just looking for a temp to help fill in the position of another permanent employee who went for maternity leave.
What an idiot liar that agent is. Trying to make the job sound attractive so he could get unsuspecting candidates to sign the contract and he gets to earn his commission.
Unscrupulous!
BTW, on a seperate note, I recommend JanDec HR. They sent me down for quite a few interviews, true to it description. However, they don't seem to have that much banking/financial positions.
hi can i just check with u guys if i went for job and i sign 3 months contract with agency but the job is abit different from what the agent told u den can i break the contract or do i have to pay them?
I remember got one lady at this agency i don't want to put it here but i'll never forget her. I think she is the senior or boss there. I got this job from her and i went to the job area to inspect the job so i can know how to get there the first day of work. While i was there, i didn't really like the job. It was all so messy and people and things were been strewn and sit all over the floor. I know they are in apparel line, a very well-known one in town area somemore but i really don't find comfortable in working there. After consideration, i decide to call her at night and tell her i don't like the job and the place is really inconvenient to me. I thought it is not but when i went down i decide it's not that near and the pay are not adjustable to it.
When she say why,i told her the reason, i say it's only common sense that i don't take up the job because of these inconvenience. Woh, her true color show. She scream at me through the phone like a madwomen and put me down and told me who the hell i think i am? She told me i didn't even got any degree and she has (goes to show what she learn in school) and she say i should be happy that she can find a job for me and she say if she wants, she can make sure i won't ever get a job in sg. While she rambled on and on and wanting to come to my house to make a nuisance somemore, asking her colleague how to get to my place. I was very shocked and surprised why she got such a big reaction, just because i reject the job? I thought there are bound to be applicants who reject job one ma....why so big reaction for?
I think she got very offended with what i say so i say to her, entertaining her, while not to make any trouble for myself, i told her, ya la you are much wiser than me l.o.r. and i'm sorry if i offend you and then she start to cool down and told me if she want to she will sue me for breach of contract and if i want to settle thing nicely, i should go down to her office the next day to return the timesheet. So i did and she still bring out the contract to show me the t&c where she could sue me.....
Never in my life had i seen a women who i never had strong personal grudges against with will want to go out of their way to ruin me. I never forget her nor her company and no wonder, i think staff inside there are also afraid of her, i remember i call up that night and one male staff answer and since the women is busy on the phone with another client, he ask me to leave a message and i told him i decide not to take up the job she offered. He sound shocked and frighten by asking, you just call like that and tell you don't want the job ah? I can sense his 'woh you are in deep trouble' voice tone.
Nevertheless, i manage to pull through this bad situation with the agency. Even my mum who is in the bathroom, can hear this madwomen screaming like she lost her mind. My mum ask me why this women talk like that and i told her. She told me to boycott them forever. I did. So from that day onwards, i am quite wary of agent but seriously there are also nice one. Like Sobranie mention, JanDec is good. I like them too but they alway recommend me banking line because i had experience in it....i wish to break it and i have found a breakthrough this year to another industry. I hope i can stay here for sometimes and gain some experience so that when i apply for job the next time, i can use this revelant experience to help me to secure the job.
Seriously, i think the women should go for some anger management course, man, she sound so mean and purely evil.

Oh dear bloomingmusk, she sounds like a boss from hell. Pity her subordinates.
Thank goodness you got out of a situation with her.![]()
Sobranie: Yes indeed. Was wondering why she need to kick up such a big fuss over such matter. Don't know what got into her that night but she and her agency is on the top of my blacklist.
P/s: all her staff were pretty meek and quiet type. I guess they knew her better than i do. Her first impression of a friendly lady and quite well-dressed and not bad-looking mid40s sitting in her own office room talking to me in the day although i sense her alittle pushy in wanting me to take the job she offered and then that very day at night, she became a monster. I don't know how she do business with her temper like that....and that they are still around...![]()
anyone has experience taking on jobs from kelly services? is it true that contract/temp jobs are paid by them and not the company that hire u?
yup its true that for temp/contract jobs, its kelly (the agency whos goin to pay u)
i found my current job thru a job agency.. so far been here almost a year.. company is good with alot of benefits such as firm trip, free medical checkup and lots of other good benefits.. my job agent is a very nice lady who after interviewing me push me to a job she feels most suitable and best for me.. =)
previously i was quite skeptical with jobs agency as when i was younger i had bad experience with recruitment firms esp RE.. but this lady agent (whom i suspect is the boss of the recruit agency) prove me wrong.. but i think her recruitment agency is a small one comparatively..
btw, its really stupid for a recruit agency to sue job seekers for compensation.. cos at the end of day, the legal cost of whatever they pay the law firms for a legal suit are definitely higher than whatever amount of compensation.. so its confirm not worth it.. but recruit agency always like to scare job seekers in not leaving a job by telling them that if they dont stay with in the job they accepted for at least half a year, they will have to pay one month pay to the agency.. which is definitely an unfair term in a contract...
btw, the recruitment agency that found me my current job is execlink and the lady agent is florence.. =)
