Is it a national culture thing or company specific (e.g. just happens that Sg branch is like this)?

i think it depends on which entities you are working in. they have a few entities in a few building.
my frd was with samsung asia HQ and she says it's good. i also went for an interview with samsung mechanic ... didnt manage to get in cos my notice was too long for them. anywaym it's a blessing, cos my frd said the turnover rate there is very high, even the HR who i felt is overly friendly in the interview left a few mths later.

and it's very funny. i went for 2 interviews. 1st with the reporting manager, dept manager and HR. 2nd was with reporting manager, finance manager and their director. i dont understand why the need with finance manager? and it's an entry post, why director?

got to rant it's a waste of my time to go for 2nd interview, cos i've emphasize on my 2 mths notice and i'm not going to pay my own penalty. after 2nd interview, still ask if i can start work asap. damn, make me happy for nothing.

oh so they have a few entities here...i was wondering too coz i saw the news reported someone in samsung singapore had H1N1 and their 25 employees went for checkups too. i was like "hmm but when i went to their office they occupy like3-5 floors cant be only 25 employees". Btw I went to the Samsung Asia office for interview.

Ya I guess the HR was at fault for your case. Wasted your time. I also sometime hate going for so many rounds of interviews esp when I feel it's not necessary. Or all of them can sit in at one go la, why have so many separate rounds. 2 is enough.

Well I went for the interview already. Chemistry with the direct boss is very good. But met up a few ppl from my future team but they are not my bosses. They don't seem frenly at all!!! Actually I have a fren working there but not on very close and good terms with her. Sometimes see her msg on facebook, it seems as if work is quite tough there...sigh........dilemma

actually the HR is not at fault. he's honestly told me what's the pro and con working there. even tell me he wont be staying there for long. it's the hiring manager who got me in for 2nd interview. trying to see if i'm willing to forgo my notice to join them. however, i'm not in need of job, so decline to join earlier.

maybe samsung asia shld be better?.. my frd used to be with supply chain, and it seems the welfare is very good. they have company lunch and dinner very often. that also means u've to be sociable.

the team of colleagues must be multi-national right? cos they told be they employ many oversea staff. if the reporting boss is good, then go for it if you dont a job on hand. within probationc can tender anytime. their notice also very short.

i worked in samsung asia before and i quit after 1 week .... not a very friendly environment ... most of the dept heads are korean and they are seconded to SG office from korea ... they are quite strict ... for eg, for emailing system, you have to use their own internal emailing .. cannot use outlook ... if u use other brands of handphone .... better not to put it on table or let the big shots see it ... not very good impression you give when u use other handphone brands and working in samsung ... if i remember correctly, there is one dept where u can request for samsung handphone if u do not wish to change it on your own ... take it as a tester sort of arrangement ...

although i was only there for 1 week but i didn't like the environment and people are not as friendly as i thought to be ... just me 2 cents worth ... it all depends how well you can "breakthrough" the barrier working with korean ... and importantly, korean men who are known to be MCP ....

oh dear sounds bad..my direct boss is chinese and her boss is korean. i also heard before they are very strict like cannot use facebook, msn etc...dunno can even access internet or not.i know japanese and koreans are stricter but they really seem quite strict eh...Even the SG colleagues there also not very frenly huh? The one I met ****** not very frenly...

mind letting me know which dept u were in? you can pm me too. i currently don't have a job and was thinking to take up the offer if they offer me but after hearing many neg comments i wonder if i should.

anyway if i do take up the offer i also have to stay past the probabtion period coz it's thru agency and i have to pay the agency 80% of my salary if i don't stay past the probabtion period!

was your fren in supply chain in samsung asia?
well not sure if it's multi-national or not. i only saw chinese and koreans when i went for my interviews.
and i can't tender anytime coz my job is thru agency and they have regulation i must work past probation period else i have to forfeit 80% of my pay....actually most agencies don't have such rules already except for this local agency. however i know of the job only thru this agency so no choice

haha that's normal lar... I work for another handphone maker and I get chided for not using my company's phone too. But I still heck care and leave my phone on the table.

Well... if they give me a free company phone or 50% discount, I'll definitely switch! But as it is, I don't get such staff perks yet!
