Hi fellow cotters
I am exploring opportunities overseas but not sure where to look for and how to start? Also, if a person successfully get an overseas posting, what benefits or perks one should ask for? Eg Tax issue, housing etc....
Thanks for your great help as always!![]()
Hi,
I do not have experience in working overseas before but i have heard from those who had been sent by the companies...i think that's where the perks you are talking about stood out. Accomodation, medical benefits, flight ticket expenses been paid etc. Not too sure on tax issue. But have heard when you work in some countries, probably those european countries, you pay your tax when you work there but once you leave the country and say come back to singapore to stay, within dunno how many years, they will return you the tax money.
But if you decide to go there yourself, it will be quite costly. Why not try asking in your company if they have any intention of sending someone overseas to work? You can try your luck there.
I know of a relatives struggling there when they go on their own even when economic is good. Life is much easier when companies sent you over there rather than you go on your own to look for a job. I read in papers not too long ago, in US, the graduates are all jobless, they form a long queue outside some job fairs, it's quite bad market there, so perhaps it's better you seek other venture to work overseas?
They are always out looking for people with a skills. I think it would be quite difficult to look for job related to office. Erm just my 2cts. Not the best person here to say for overseas job but thought i share what i know/heard of.
i also wish to be able to work overseas!
You are gonna love me ♥

I feel like working overseas too. One of my friend was posted to hongkong for one year plus, kinda envy though. Hongkong is a vibrant city, so full of life. It will be so fun to work there.
I also want to work in overseas. Previously I was offered a job in China for 3 years but the accommodation is not provided and who dares to work in China. Just think of the food and safety is already nightmare.
I'm aiming to work in UK but not sure their accommodation rental cost how much, other things that we need to prepare.
hmmm yeah i wanna know too. would actually love to work overseas for a few years
but think not easy to find
Hi dear, it's good that you are willing to explore overseas, there are mainly two ways:
First as other formers have mentioned, sent by company
Second, will be applying actively yourself.. if you decide to go this way, you can first decide which country you want to work, search online job websites for that country... this way will be a little bit more work as it may be quite tricky (Includes things like work permit? etc.. )![]()
