Anyone puruse a carrer in the make up industry and attended the aboved mention school? Compare which school is better and also wad are yr career advancement? Tks
I took my diploma with cosmoprof, and overall was quite okay. Somehow find that certain modules are stretched. Like, doing up a clown need not take up a full 2 hour session. That's what i feel.
Career wise, if you want to achieve something based on the cert only then it would be pretty hard. My classmates start off as counter sales/MUA with counter brands - MAC/BB/Shu Uemura. Don't expect to earn big notes. If you aren't interested in floor selling, another way is freelancing/part timing with make over studios and bridal studios. But have to be jolly sure that your make up tools are well equipped. Outsiders wont know what is the so called brands used by professionals only. Stock up on your MAC/BB foundation shades and colours
For me, i did freelance makeup for ROM/Weddings/Prom/D&D. It sure wasn't easy to juggle that along with your full time job. And so, I've chucked my tools aside. For now at least. Good luck girl![]()
I attended Cosmosprof but kinda regretted... I would suggest School of Makeup by Peter Angel...
Friends who attended makeup classes there had more hands-on exposure as compared to Cosmoprof..
School of makeup offers part-time positions with reputable makeup brands and also they have more exposure for students like makeup shows etc.. But fees I think is slightly more ex than cosmo..
tks blurzhu and beautfied11 for your advices..
Blurzhu:
may i ask after you graduated with the cert how did u manage to find contacts to do freelance make up ? tks
I started off with own colleagues and friends. Most of the time, I did it free or some of them would just pay me a small amount just to cover for the cab fare. From there, they introduced other opportunities to me. If you have better portfolio (those jobs that you take on instead of just the school portfolio), you can do a walk in self promotion to bridal studios. Have them looked through it, and leave your contact with them. Many bridal studios engage freelancers and part timers instead of just having 1 resident MUA. At the initital stage, be expected to throw in free jobs and do them well. Words spread and that's where your opportunities comes. I know Mediacorp sometimes do recruit part timers, can give it a try too. But rather tough especially for outdoor shoots.
blurzhu tks for ya reply!
theblacktofu: what did you regret about cosmoprof? was it the lack of opportunities as well?
I attended the Open House at Cosmoprof recently and the lady who spoke to me said that they do have some opportunities for students or graduates of the school.
in terms of oppotunities, school of makeup is better..
yes, i regret the lack of oppotunities. and i read that sch of make up teaches more things too..
wondering how do the students of these make up school find their models?
for any make up students, you can get your friends to be models, or even friend's friends. at most if you cant find, go ask people on the streets. it works!
sama sama... haha... i took the personal make up course at cosmoprof april this year, cost ard $300 plus... the facilty sucks but i mgt to learn a few stuff, but coz the teacher ask us to DIY after she's done with a person face... its quite hard to catch the tricks ... plus i feel tt the teacher is not tt professional too..
who was your teacher? diane? diane was my teacher & she's really good at make-up, hair & nails.. (=
Hii, i graduated from school of makeup and still free lancing as a makeup artist for a few years already. I think the exposure the school provided is good. worth giving it a try. for the diploma in professional makeup, can get to learn makeup hairstyling accessories making n nail art...![]()
