air: pmed you!
erm.. i don't know if it is too low. haha... actually, what's the normal fees like? for someone unexperienced like me, it would be rather low right? and it's primary school too. hmm. actually i don't know... ah.. help please!![]()
Air: i think the rates are quite ok cause you are taking english only right? but having taught conversational english before, i think teaching language is no joke!furthermore, the students are near your house right? just be sure that the parent don't 'bully' you (as in payment wise), cause i have friends who had unreasonable parents when it comes to payment!
normally the rate would be like $160-$200 for english, maths and science for primary schools.. so i think your rate is alright!
good luck with your assignments!
PS: am going to pm you now! need assignments too!![]()
well... the thing is that i NEVER let parents know that i stay near if i do.. just in case they try to cancel any sessions last min just cos i stay near.
i'm teaching one to one and at a centre. i thought the sec 2 eng rate was quite low cos i've got a taiwan student sec 3, teaching him eng and maths, at 20 bucks per hr... of course every assignment may differ ***.. but i rather go by per hr rates than how-many-subj-rate...
$20 per hour for a sec 3 is considered rather low. you should be asking for ~$25![]()
talking about parents, i have met some weird parents who will give u tons of excuses when it comes to payment :puke:
roxycurl_gal : yes yes! there're so many weird people around that you're never sure what they're gonna say when it's time for payment! and i hate it when these people give excuses!![]()
I am not sure the rest of you adopt this practice, I will normally collect payment first before I proceed with the lessons to prevent conflicts regarding payment issues with the parents.
chocolatemousse : i hope i can do that too. but not all parents are willing to do that.
just to share something with you girls. this student of mine will pass me the fee on the first of every month. but during her prelim days, we stepped up the number of session to twice per week, but the mum just happily ignored that and end up i have to reason it out with her![]()
some parents do not count the number of sessions that we tutors had with their kids. so if there's any mistakes in that, fingers will be pointed to us. why cant they just take note of it as well. they want us to do the job, but yet do not trust us.![]()
roxycurl_gal: i will normally ask for a notebook from my studies, which i will actually write time the date, the time start and end of the lesson with my signature. That book also includes the student's homework. Maybe you can try that.![]()
that's what the lady i'm teaching is doing too! there'll be this small notebook which i will write in everytime i go in order to keep track of the number of times i go for tuition. this way everything is spelt out clearly!
roxycurl_gal: the mum is so! my mum keeps track of the number of times my tutor comes in during those days when i had tuition. and she's the type who'll always pay on time!
how can the mum ignore the fact that you went 2x as much and expect to pay the same amount!?
yup. i'm using that.![]()
btw, are you working and giving tuition at the same time?
nope dearie!i'm studying and giving tuition at the same time. super poor student.
need more money. btw, do you know of any good and efficient tuition agencies?
![]()
Anyone tried advertising in newspapers before?
miracle : it's really difficult to do that, best is still by word of mouth.
chiri: having a notebook to keep track is the best!![]()
roxycurl_gal: was working full time and teaching part time, now changing job.![]()
Have anyone of you came across any good agencies that collect <50% commission? It's not worth giving 50% of our hard earned $$ to them.![]()
miracle : i doubt there's such agency. :booty:
