Hey girls. I read through the entire thread and got more apprehensive with each page!

I had (out of curiosity) joined Create Talents (Dhoby Ghaut MRT), but when I heard that you'd need to pay for your portfolio (different package, different prices..mine was the cheapest but still 370SGD was a shock to my account) I kinda backed out, only to jump back in the next day. I handed 150SGD to them first because they promised that there was a job waiting for me. I didn't heard anything about the job after that even though I'd sent SMSes asking. Maybe I got rejected - I'm cool with that, but at least let me know, right? XD

Just a note: I haven't gone for the photoshoot for the portfolio (was supposed to go, but end up didn't have the time nor money to pay the balance).

After reading the entire thread, I decided to cancel, and save the remaining 220SGD if I could. I SMSed the lady that was incharge of me, and apologised. The money I paid is non-refundable - totally understand because the money is needed to keep their organisation alive, and I'm cool with that too. I'm just glad that I saw this page, and had the guts to back out etc. You know how some of us feel too paiseh to back out, and end up regreting all our lives.

    Thanks girls ^.^"

I didn't see him there at the Dhoby Ghaut agency..Mostly run by the girls. A few days after I told them I didn't want to go for my shoot, and hence like "break contract", they called me back (and most recently yesterday, just a few minutes before my exam. imagine how frustrated I felt >.<) to say stuff like "yeah but you already paid 150dollars..don't let it go to waste!"

If I was in a worse mood, I would have shot them with "Ya, at least I never waste another 220dollars".

Well, I've seen their photos but yeah, they kinda struck me as pretty and nice at first glance. I'm no photographer but after I saw their photography studio (rather, another sister company or something) I was pretty disappointed. It's right beside their agency at DBG, beside the Gateway repair center >.>

it's been a few years since i got conned, so i guess now the scam agency has more talent scouts to do the dirty work and slightly improved modus operandi. Photography studio??Hahaha that's more like it seriously I think I told him when i confronted him that he shouldnt disguise himself as a model agency when he is in fact getting his main income from cheating people to do mediocre/substandard photography portfolio. His actual modelling income is probably zilch. I asked him, how many percent commision does he take and he refused to tell me until I started scolding him and he said 80%. Nice huh

When I went to see him with a friend who is, to be honest very ordinary looking and not photogenic (some models may not be pretty but they photograph well which is even better), the scammer turned on his 'charm' and started complimenting her on how she's got SO MUCH potential to be a model etc even she was shocked. I guess there's money to be made and so many girls with stars in their eyes and this guy's company preys on this.

Hi hi.. I'm new here.. read this up coz I got approached by one of the staff from Modelling / Talents agency near Orchard MRT station 2 weeks ago.

I don't know anything about modelling. So naturally feel flattered coz its like kena "spotted". I went down for the interview last week but didn't sign up for anything. Didn't know have to fork out money for the photoshoot.. Was told I can choose 2 types of packages for the photoshoot, $870 or $1670. And a $500 for publicity.

The lady who interviewed me seems nice.. simple-looking and kind of understanding. Don't look like those scheming type to me. In fact, its more like a casual chat rather than an interview. The thing is i find it a huge sum to fork out though according to the lady, its even more elsewhere. Besides, there's not guarantee i can get assignments, right?

    Really need some advice..

I've heard of those talent companies approaching just about anyone on the streets, just to get people to go down to sign up for their portfolio packages ranging from hundreds to thousands. They''ll say stuff like "you need the portfolio, then we'll give you the job."

    But it's not true.

If they are really interested in you, they would pay for your portfolio.

Pls dont b scammed by these ads or those roving scouts! I am an experienced model for 6years n have heard many stories from my juniors. Basically these ads want you to pay for porfolio packages ranging fromm $188 to $1000 or more. However, it is true that u need portfolio pics n not those personal pics that are not professional in modelling sense. You should pay a reasonable amount but once again, many agencies there have not enough jobs for their models and these agencies mostly earn from new models' portfolio money. Some agencies r here for very long by surviving so... old models no jobs n run away/ no contact, new young models come in again...it is a vicious cycle! LOL.

Modelling agencies to avoid in general:
    I models
    Beeworks
    Shine
Widomenia (cant rem the spelling-sry )
    Jeffery Chung
    etc etc

Beware of sleazy agencies!! Young girls pls avoid those freelance photographers who might even shoot u for free portfolio photos or pay u. There are many ti ko peks n u might be made to wear lingerie n make suggestive( like porn star) poses! SO DONT think abt it esp if u r new to this.

PM me if u have any qn on modelling or if u want to be a model as I can just start u with small jobs n let u have a feel of it 1st. (though i dont know how this site works, busy to keep tabs on forums..keke)

Last advices: Dont bother if u r not on time, irresponsible n think it is easy. BE SMART n ALERT! Easy money or free things from agencies/photographers come with a price, so don't regret it...

    1. if you're an experienced model like you suggest, why is it that you dont even know the proper spelling to WILHEMINA Models, one of the biggest modelling firms around.

    2. it seems you're trying to recruit the girls for your own modelling jobs instead.

    3. everyone, please, if you think you are good enough to be a model, approach the agencies yourselves. They can spot potential when they see it, even if you don't have a portfolio. So from now on if anyone approaches you on the streets, show them your middle finger, and strut off like a model.

    Thank you.

when i was a student in KL, no need portfolio esp if you are looking to do advertisements, all you have to fork out if your own transport and time to go for castings and auditions.

Here it's so commercialised and opportunistic, every small company wants to make money out of the 'models'. The truth is not everyone can model or is suitable for advertisements, yet bogus companies like create talents hawk on unsuspecting girls on the street to earn their couple of hundred bucks here and there.
