Do not fall for scams!
I've written a few articles about how to kick start your portfolio, and information about TFCD. Hope it will help to provide some insides to help avoid more girls being scammed. How to kick start your modeling portfolio at 5:20 PM 0 Firstly, I'm not a model but I'm glad I have the opportunity to work with outstanding photographers to build up my portfolio. From young, I've never inspired to be a professional model as I'm not tall and not exactly beautiful. Through networking and friends, I got to know an amazing group of photographers thru social networking sites and personal recommendations. So how do you kick start your portfolio? Forget scams "modeling agencies" that charges you few hundred bucks for a simple portfolio and promises to get assignments for you. Very often the makeup artist(MUA) and photographers DON'T do a good job. Reputable agencies will not charge you a single cent for photographing your portfolio. I will personally recommend sourcing for good makeover studios or even portraits photographers. If you do not know how to do your own makeup, makeover studio might be a better alternative as you will be able to get a decent startup portfolio around $200 bucks with makeup and hair-do inclusive. If you will want to engage an individual photographer, you can either do your own makeup and hair, or engage a MUA around additional $80. Personally, I paid for my first photoshoot because I've always wanted professionally taken photos for myself and my favorite photographer happened to have a photoshoot promotion going on. Next I will introduce TFCD / TFP, Time for Print or Time For CD - Means that the job is unpaid, and the model will receive a CD or print of some or all of the shots taken during the shoot in exchange for her time. Hello gals, let me know if this is not appropriate but....
Ctenophlora was originally helmed by 2 of us, but now, as one of us is busy with exams, we'd be unable to maintain Ctenophlora as a blogshop. Hence we're going to take Ctenophlora in a different direction, more of as a hobby/project in progress if you like. Currently, we're looking for models to do photoshoots. We're not looking for people who can model with top grade posing skills, what we're looking for is people with style and mostly importantly, can be natural in front of the camera and just be yourself. And although there will be no payment for models, I promise that it'd be lots and lots of fun! Plus you'd get to keep a collection of the pretty photos. So what are you waiting for? Do drop us an email asap at ctenophora@gmail.com if you're interested and we'd work something out. Thankyou gals. (: <3 this is our website: ctenophlora.livejournal.com we're an authetic blogshop. There's no official portfoilo, but you can see some of the photos taken there. But we're planning to try to do something different, so just drop us an email asap. (: |

i cant believe i read through the entire thread. i have been approached by almost all the "fake" modeling agency you girls mentioned in the post since i was 13!. i modeling, create talents, and some other names which i have forgotten. they use the same methods all the time and i m sick of it. Yes, i modeling ask me to bring my mum down to talk abt it n sign the contract etc which i have to pay 400-600 for the photoshoot and portfolio. i told myself. WHY TAKE THE RISK? when u are not being ensured to get clients or assignments to do?back then i was only 13-14 but i was already quite tall and matured. TODAY, which is 22 jan 2010, i was approached by jerry, from jerry models at ochard ion. like all the other girls said. he wore the same branded outfit ,carrying many phones, ipod and his macbook. he did the same by asking if i m local, (and said that i don't look local) , ask if i m from republic poly etc. (omg it is definitely a scam, how could he ask everyone else the same question??. (this is just plain stupid!). he showed me the contract with deal or no deal, that the girls are from his agency. come on, i know some of the models there, i could just ask them abt it. He also asked me if i were a model before. (im 1.68m btw) yes i did for a really short period under an agency that do modeling and other assignments too. he doesn't seemed to have heard of the name and his expressions had betrayed himself. i m pretty good in observance cause i m a 101% sensitive person. i sense bad things easily =) and i could tell he is not doing something good. He didnt ask me for money though but he said he would call. he also said that he hate people who wouldn't answer his call and ask me to check my phone frequently in case he ring me up.
enough about jerry models (which is obviously a scam after we hear so much stories from the innocent girls). Call me ignorant or what but i just dont get it, he had scam sooo much money from so many girls why cant anyone report him to the police and get him arrested? i dont know when he had started this because this is my first encounter with him. but this thread post started since 2007. why do history keep repeating itself over and over again. i don't care if it is just $20 that u said. i rather drop that money and let someone pick it up then giving it to him . thats like giving him more support and encouragement to scam more girls. can someone tell me wth are the policemen or the adults doing. these innocent girls need to be taught and protected!. things like that have been going on for years and it is still happening now. i cant help but feeling really sorry for them. and one thing. i never ever believed in paying for portfolio or com cards. i have friends who are photographers and they take wonderful pictures for me. if any agency ask for my portfolio, i could give them. if they want me to pay for the editor to do the editing, i have friends who can do that. i have friends in any fields of industry. There are no reason for me or the girls out there to pay 400-600 or even 200 to do some stupid photo shoots or portfolios.. GIRLS, it doesn't make any sense! so u see, after i countered them with these questions, they dont approach me anymore. they know that they cant scam me.! if u had ever given money to them. try to meet them up, like what some girls said. (do not talk abt it through phone or they will just run away) and then find a way to cancel the agreement and take back your money. if they refuse or in anyway u cant handle, call the police! or tell them u are calling the police now to settle the problem. LEARN TO PROTECT YOURSELF.! all girls dream to be models. i m a girl just like u and i understood. but do not rush or let yourself fall into traps like that. before u agree on anything, RESEARCH abt the agency and see if their offers make sense. do not rush just because u think that your opportunity of being a model is slipping away. whether u are a model or not, u need to be respected! u should never feel mentally forced. your feelings are the first priority, if they make u uncomfortable, u should know why, |

Whats the difference between part time model and full time model?isit the job offered and pays varies?I'm actually very interested to try out modelling for quite sometime and have been approached by agencies quite a few times but i seriously don't know where to start.I know there is freelance kind but i rather under an agency because i think its safer for a first timer.

been approached by imodels too, this happened at orchard mrt...this guy named chris was telling me that i look good (i only consider myself average) and had dress sense (come on...t-shirt and jeans?) he asked for my number and name and said he would contact me. alas, no news so thankfully nothing happened. after reading all your comments..yes i know that this is a dream for many girls, but remember, whatever they say, do your research and bring all that down to earth. after all, if it's too good to be true...it probably is.
