In the past, i'll just light the joss stick and pray for god to ensure i do well in exams. That means to able to go into exam hall in tip-top condition instead of falling sick, anxious etc.

I do not really want to go ask for a "lot", because if the lot comes out to be a bad one, then it will definitely affect me, and i might not do well in exams. Just my

Peakaboo, i believe if you did study and you are well prepared for the exams, you can do well.

ya i agreed. when i was in sec sch even up to poly, i didnt draw a lot except for my GCE O level, whether to retake my Chinese since I've A2.

In the end, the lot is bad or average which i cant remember. I only know the lot is saying, waste of time. hehehe

as I get older and have problems, I draw lots from the temple. But I will seek for permission first before drawing a lot. I remember once when I asked if its okay to further study at this period of time, the lot is bad, saying that route is tough, like dragging a fierce tiger up a very steep slope. So in the end I didnt apply. IMO, one must really believe in Guan Yin Pu Sa to take heed in the lot. Then after a year or so, I asked for a lot and the lot is very good. Saying that the future is good, Buddha (i think) let me know in advance'. If I've taken the studies earlier, I will have no time for studying due to work commitment. Thats what I feel. heh.

I have full confidence in the lot but just that i feel that I'm lousy at posing my Qn to Guan Yin. Scare later lot not accurate because of my confusing Qn.

actually there is no need to promise anything to the Buddha or Guan Yin Pu Sa. And dont anyhow promise things. I always feel that its wrong to promise anything. U can always do whats within yr limit when u go back to pray etc. Guan Yin Bu Sa doesnt expect to 'exchange' anything for your wishes. Sometimes things happened due to our own Karma also but praying to Guan Yin Pu Sa do helps. Just like chanting matra or sutra.

For one to draw a lot, must state yr name, age, address, what u are asking for. then use the puay to ask if you can draw a lot. when the approval is given, go ahead. then when the lot is out, use the puay to ask if this is the lot. If it is, then proceed to the counter.

Normally i read the chinese version then the english explainations. Once i asked the uncle how come slightly different, he said its from the chinese version translated to english. so english isnt that accurate. Best to read the chinese books.

No. Just once when u seek approval. and Just once when u get the lot. However, if the puay is both up, I will normally ask again because i interpret as Guan Yin Bu Sa dont know what I'm asking. I always phrase the qn in a very complicated way hehehehe. Even my mum asked how come yr qn so messy? However if the puay is both down/closed, i dont ask again. When the lot is dow/closed i think either its nothing to worry or the lot is no good. Guan Yin Bu Sa just dont see the need to let the person get a lot

oh dear, i didn't ask for permission the las time i went. i just shake the qian n the when one dropped out, i asked guan yin whetehr it's mine n it was n i took it for intepretation. i didn't know i must throw the crescent thing first to ask for premission.

    will it still be accurate?

anyway, i think i didn't ask properly. i asked whetehr i should stay on in the rs or move on. n it gave me a good qian.

anyone can help me to interprete?

actually personally feel that its not necessary to ask regarding studies (as in how well u will fare) or r/s (puppy love) hehehee.
unless like u are not sure if the guy is honest or whatever then i think is ok to draw a lot. otherwise everytime (assume ah) a r/s draw a lot then it become too dependable. or one thinks that its really ruining yr cells etc, u need to get some advices then do what u deem fit.

like when one is getting headache with some issues and know its going no where, yet still struggle to hang on and totally 'messed up' with a decision, even getting a bad lot is "good" because it make one put aside the things and get on with life. MHO hehehe

i think if you asked whther the lot is yrs and get the 'nod' then its ok IMO. just remember to do so before u ask next time

and take note that a single lot can refer to many things. like marriage, family, lose things, etc etc so u need to read the fine prints as well to get a better idea. its not easy to read the lot but i do not go to those people outside to interpret.

one of the touching lot i read from the papers= this indian guy he went to the temple to draw a lot on giving his kidney to his muslim sister *married muslim. then the lot is very good and he went ahead with it after keeping to a muslim diet since the BIL objects initially. Then the operation is very good and now its like 10-20yrs i think after the operation and he is still healthy as before. He said he has great faith in GUan Yin Bu Sha.

i agree. I think it's a good idea to ask only if it's a serious matter (like entering into a business or relocating overseas, etc). I think bad things sometimes teach us good lessons...

Just saw this interesting thread. Regarding the issue of making a wish, my post is a year late Hopefully, cotters will find it useful. I am fortunate to have a Buddhist auntie (my mom's friend) who lent me Buddhist drama DVDs and gave me advice. According to her, we should try not to make wishes, instead we should do good deeds first. This advice is derived from one of the DVD series:
The protagonist had a miserable life (death/disappearance of children, wife turned blind, failing of exam four times, poverty, etc). In his anguish, he wrote a petition to his diety. On Chinese New Year, the diety appeared and told him that his main sin was evil intention (that led to many bad deeds being committed and resulted in his harsh life). From there, the protaganist reflected on his past mistakes and made the effort to repent and truly cultivate himself (through sincerely thanking his benefactor, doing good deeds sincerely, letting go of his hatred, etc.). Besides that, he prayed and repented everyday.

    Hope the summary is useful.

Just to add on, when doing good deeds, we should do it out of compassion. For instance, when we give up seats to the elderly, instead of doing it because it is the "right thing", we do it because we take into consideration the well-being of the elderly. Sometimes. the elderly may feel uncomfortable when standing, the least we could do is to minimize their discomfort.
