I used to eat alone.. because I often work temporary jobs. I don't had much common topics to chat with the staff..Eating with them made me feel leave out. Eating alone sometime very lonely as you seen people in groups

i don't like to eat alone too. if i have to eat alone, i will just grabbed a fast bite then take a rest @ my place or go to the nearby mall to have a walk walk last time. if not, i will packed my own bento and eat @ the pantry room.

actually really nothing wrong to eat alone, maybe sometime boring but at least you can eat and then shop and shop what you want and like.

so anyone here working in CBD area? like raffles place or shenton way :wow:

My previous job is so busy that lunchtime is a time where the people who has more time go ta pao for others (me)... haha... then now, my job, all are shift workers... no lunch time for them so it means I tao poa back and have lunch in front of my computer... guess I am used to this kind of lifestyle....

Never had the experience of working in a place whereby all the collegues gather for lunchtime or like what my friends did.... had fellow collegues to go out after work for dinner or movies together... haha... bad luck huh?

i used to eat alone or tabao back when i worked in CBD. Usually delifrance or burger king... its true that it may be lonely.. the reason why i lunch alone is guess i have no common topics with other colleagues..

i didnt survive long in that job, guess makaning alone is part of the reason why i left..

it's not weird to initiate to join them for lunch l.a.h. you cant expect them to keep asking you right, they will get tired after asking a few times. try to ask them before they do, slowly you will be part of their lunch kakis.
i used to be very pai seh too, but i hate to lunch alone since i work in industrial park. so being thick skin, i ask my colleague who drives to drive me out for lunch.

eclipsepmint: Your work place very near mine.
Do you eat at the Waterloo coffeeshop? I hate that place except for the chicken rice stall.

call me weird! hah.. i actually enjoy lunch alone. not because i m anti-social but rather i usually take fruits or no lunch and moreover the afternoon sun and the lunch crowd is really *killing* me. so much that i rather stay in the air-con office, surf net or read newspaper.

i share your exact sentiments. thanks for starting this thread, now i know i am not alone in this! i lunch alone almost all the time and this is not by choice. i feel like a misfit really.

the big downside about not lunching with colleagues is you will miss out essential office information sometimes. important early information like my boss has resigned, or a colleague has been fired all transpires during lunch. it is very embarassing to be the last to know about such key information.

I'm exactly like loves. I value my alone time v much. I never minded being a lone ranger since as long as I can remember. Of course it does the ego or self-esteem good when people want my company I'll tend to spend unnecessarily if I lunch out with colleagues. And they like to talk about work over lunch - gimme a kit kat, man

Nonetheless, everything in moderation. People do need people ultimately. Be of good cheer! Give a little, take a little. You learn about things by being around people, whether it's children 24/7 or how much a kilo of prawns cost before the CNY. Maybe from these experiences, you'd learn something about yourself too? And really, why worry about what others think of you just because you prefer to lunch alone? Some people can learn a thing or two about privacy and discretion
