A word for Singpost here...I've sent out about 700 packages these 2 years or so (not counting those which I have received- probably about 100), and I've lost about 5 packages or so.
After this time, I'm certain Singpost staff are very honest.
Lost mail can happen for various reasons quite apart from theft, such as delivery to wrong address (because of handwriting, or mistake on part of postal staff).
as the buyer was the one who corresponded, i'm not too sure what she wrote. But this paragraph was part of the reply that singpost gave:
We have brought your case to the attention of the section in charge of mail collection. We will be
monitoring the collection of items posted into the letterbox at Tampines Central. We will not
hesitate to take strict disciplinary action, including criminal proceedings, if there is sufficient
reason to suspect any undesirable acts on the part of the collection staff.
not sure why they mentioned it. but i must comment that the staff are pretty efficient and helpful in the quest for the packet.
Have anyone wondered whether its possible for pranksters to steal from the post box? if you notice, the mailbox at the post office with big handles have rather big openings and if the mailbox is at least 3/4 full, it shouldn't be difficult for the person to just take the item from the mailbox. maybe the post office should look into additional preventive measure like a metal slate that can only move in one direction ?
I think it's a stock reply.Originally Posted by ysilveer
They probably say that in every letter. I love the staff at Tampines...they are really efficient! The queue there moves very fast, unlike some other post offices bleh.
The same thing crossed my mind too.Have anyone wondered whether its possible for pranksters to steal from the post box?
I've rarely encountered a full mailbox though- the post office seems to clear the postbox more than once a day. I've seen them clearing it at about 1pm on my way to lunch, and I think they collect mail again at the end of the day before 5pm.
I've filed for lost mail enquiries before, and they got back to me within 2 working days (once by mail and the other by phone).
i normally send items on weekends when i'm free to go down to the post office and well, the mailbox normally looks quite filled. maybe i should avoid mailing stuff on weekends.
ive experienced this before to (when i was swapping in MUA)- "There was once i sent out a mail and it came back after 2 weeks, indicated on the envelope was "no such address" . In the end i had to resend the item to the same address and luckily it reached the buyer."
and i remembered my taiwan friend didnt write my address too clearly, but she wrote my phone number and the postman actually bothered to call up my home to confirm the address. i was so pleased she took the extra effort so i commended on her excellent service to singpost.
Help im really worried now. I sent out a letter a week ago to someone in US unregistered by air mail and she still hasnt received it. I took the risk and not register this time. Whenever, i send it registerd, it gets delivered. Im afraid it might get lost. Does this happen to any of you?![]()
Hi maybe u should wait a few more days first and see? Usually iirc it takes about 9-12 days to reach US..? Its faster to send a letter from US to Singapore compared to vice versa as US is a huge country...the distrubution process may cause delays too. I used to write to my friend who moved to USA, yup and one of my mails to her got lost before.
edited: to reflect singpost's ETA (9-12).

One week is a really short time, especially if it's to a destination in the States not in San Francisco, New York or Honolulu (where Singpost bases are located). It takes about 10-12 days, so I'll start getting worried only after a fortnight if I were you.Originally Posted by faeriedust
i sent about 3-4 mails to US more than 2 weeks ago and they havent received the mails! gosh, i seriously hoped the mails are not lost. btw, they are not registered. i think it is impossible to track right?
i found it strange that my mails tend to be lost when i dropped it in Jurong Point PO than in other areas.
i have a question, who will deliver the mails in US? the singpost people based in US? or the USPS people?
USPS. No SingPost people in US except if you consider those working in vPost. I have a feeling most of them at Meridian IQ are blonde and blue eyed. Doesn't make economic sense to send post office workers to US.
First time I'm having lost mail. My seller claimed to have sent it a week ago. I don't think she'd want to cheat me out of $5.60. *sigh*
what about the Honolulu (where Singpost bases are located)? hmm, maybe the US postmen stole my mails?!
have you tried calling singpost? i think there must has been a huge influx of people enquiring about lost mail judging from singpost replies.
Hmm?? Honolulu? I never knew SingPost had a base in Hawaii. The only Singaporean SingPost staff would probably be in administrative positions there than the door to door postman.
It usually takes about 10 days for mail to reach US. I sent out some items about 10 day ago. Will check with my buyers if they are received.
My lost mail are local mail though.
Sometimes patience is the key. Don't worry too much in the process.
Purchase something fr a cotter here. Postage was stamped 04 Apr 2005. But i only received the package today 13 Apr in my letterbox. I checked my letterbox everyday. And hey! i'm talking abt local mail here, and it's not bulky mail.
I'm not exactly complaining here as i'm thankful the package reached me eventually. This is not the first time it happened to me, just post here so that more of you are aware, it does take this long for normal local mails to reach.
I sent a parcel out on 4th April too! And it hasn't reached my buyer yetMy 3rd almost-lost mail out of the 100ths I've sent.. hope my buyer's as lucky as you caramelgirl!
