hm.i dont get designer bags.. yes! inspired ones most prob.
anyways, i realised all bags would tear one day and whye get expensive bags?
i rather spend it on those bags which catch my attention and prices are affordable.. use it.. spoil..and throw. and then, get another bag of new design! well, seasons change.. so does bags! =)
You are right, maybe I shouldn't be so judgemental then.
if they wear sloppily with branded bags, it really means they are distasteful. What are they trying to proof? They are poor dressers but have money to buy branded bags to show they have good taste? they are not only killing fashion, they are also humilating themselves and the brand.please respect the designers of the brands
they are just showing off. I look down on them.... i look up on people who don't carry branded stuff but dress properly
I think carrying a branded bag don't have to be dressed in a classic way from head to toe. But at least match the outfit please. They have money to buy one expensive bag but no money to buy other bags to match other outfits?
If these people have the money, they can get one branded sporty bag to match sporty outfits, one branded casual bag to match casual outfits etc
These people owns the bags and have the freedom to match them whatever way they like. The same with someone who say it's their own body and they can be naked on the streets because they like it?.... cannot right? because the police will arrest them. I am looking forward to the day when there are Fashion Police who can fine people for bad fashion sense. Hahahah.
until that day, I hope that people can be socially responsible and educate people on dress sense. Money can buy a $10K bag, but it cannot buy good taste.

well, wearing branded or carrying branded doesnt mean one is tasteful. if a person can buy a 10k bag, she will probably have the money to buy clothes as well. designers bags are just designs and maybe quality. They should not go to the extend of being worshipped and being labelled as 'humilated' by a human being. Its just a brand and to the extend of humilating that brand and designer?????????? Well, its wrong to compare wearing sloppy dressing with a branded bag to someone being naked in the public. They may have been an eyesore to yr eyes but still general acceptable to the majority. This is two different issue. The latter is already an offence (law).
i'm wondering if a person wears Giordano Polo Tee with a normal Jeans, carrying LV VS another wearing Polo Ralph Lauren Polo Tee with a DKNY jeans carrying LV....... does it mean that the former is humilating LV?
Fashion police, should first fine designers that create yucky bags. ie Gucci Indy Bag and that Louis Vuitton Tribute Patchwork bag. The designers themselves are humilating their labels and also customers!
Ok I have OT.
I just saw the Gucci fug bag yesterday! It's the price tag that puts me off, and the fact that some people would throw that kind of money for reasons only they know. It's humans who put other humans and things on the pedestal to worship.
I am just thinking, what if I happen to come across this "branded" bag on ebay. I love the style, colour etc...the seller claims its authentic. However, I doubt it because of its low price but i really really like it and I dont think I can find it anywhere else. So how?
If he claims it's authentic (yet it is highly dubious), he's obviously trying to fleece you off. I get turned off by dishonest sellers, and I'd be really turned off by the goods he's trying pedal.
Just me being weird. Heh.
I agree, wearing branded or carrying branded does not mean tasteful. But wearing branded stuff and mis-matching it.... or carrying branded but with mis-matching clothes is distasteful.
"Giordano Polo Tee with a normal Jeans" does not equal sloppy dressing. we are not talking abour brands here. We are saying people who are dressed in old t-shirt,beach shorts(some even in home shorts) and slippers. Like they going to the market. Then they carry a classic-look bag.
I am not against people who are dressed in old t-shirt,beach shorts(some even in home shorts) and slippers and carry a matching cheap bag.
I am against people who are dressed in old t-shirt,beach shorts(some even in home shorts) and slippers and carry a mismatching expensive branded bag.
Singapore is a 1st world country but many Singaporeans are still 3rd world citizens in fashion terms. They think of "style" as branded expensive fashion labels. WRONG.
I have seen people in poorer cities who don't have a single branded label on them, but they still show STYLE
Summary:
Unbranded stuff does not equal sloppy dressing.
Cheap stuff stuff does not equal sloppy dressing.
Sloppy dressing is defined as a lack of care or precision
Wearing branded or carrying branded does not mean tasteful
Spending thousands of dollars on a bag but wearing cheap clothes not distasteful
but sloppy dressing + mismatching branded stuff = distasteful

I have the same 'concerns' as you. For example, I find a bag that is brand XXX on ebay/auctions, and really like the design but have not seen it before. Seller claims it's from a past season and sells it cheap because it has been 'used but in excellent condition'... how? I am more put off my people claiming that something is authentic (when it is questionable) than someone selling a mirror but say it outright that it is a replica.

Haha, am like you. I have short attention span! I am happiest when a bag I am using spoils or breaks so I can go get a new one!! Ditto shoes.

Great summary! I don't wear labels but I do take care of what I'm wearing. I would love to own a really good quality IT item but practicality (and the guilt that I'm spending my son's diaper money) would hold me back. It is a fact that Singaporeans in general are poor dressers even though the bulk of us can afford to look good in Giordano (better jeans than Levi's) and U2.
Well thanks , I am just emphasng the fact that I am not against expensive branded stuff nor cheap stuff. I just hope that people can match their outfits properly.
However some people do not read posts clearly and jump to conclusions. I notice that's the case with some Cotters in Cozycot. They argue for the sake of arguing.
I'm not taking sides. To be fair, VinLongo made her argument based on what was said about sloppily dressed people not deserving branded bags and hence an insult to the designers of the bags. I actually agree that this is a wrong view. I honestly don't think the designers give a hoot who buys their bags and how people wear their designs. The designer can't stop tasteless people from buying his/her bag, can they
I guess it's how our opinions were presented that might cause misunderstanding![]()
Ohh... sorry to say that's very wrong. Maybe the shareholders of the brands don't give a hoot who buys their bags and how people wear their designs. but I am sure that the designers do care about how their designs are trashed by tasteless people.
I know, because my designers friends and I care about how people trash our hard-work creations. Some people think they use money to buy our stuff and they have the right to do whatever they can. This is Wrong.
Good designers/creative people are very cranky people who are proud of their work and the work they do is hard work...so please respect them I also hate it when people come to my store and try to pick small faults on our clothes..just to ask for discounts..
I seemed rather insistant on this matter because I am sad to see the fashion scene in singapore be in such a sad situation.
we can't stop tasteless people from buying designer bags, but we should all do our part to outcast/shame the people that trash beautiful fashion. We can't stop them, but at least we shouldn't say that it's ok and let these people do as they like.
Cozycot is an excellent forum because of the large active community and hence is a very good platform to share correct information.... not let Cotters think that it's ok to be rich but tasteless..

Hi Ladies... just want to share with you all something that I have wrote on fashion in my blog http://amourmavie.blogspot.com/2007/...fad-shine.html
Yes Glossie.... in fact I saw an LV bag that was so tempting, but I walked away from it. The few k can be put to better use in my house fund.. i tell myself.. sadzzz
I think buying the real or fake thing and the reason for it differs from person to person. For me, I will not. I still remember those student days where I did not have money to afford the real thing & ended up buying replica wallets from those pasar malam... gosh, it can cost like ($40-50) which is a lot for a secondary student. End result.. the quality barely lasted 3 months. I believe in paying for the quality, if I really want to own expensive items. Else, I have been very happy carrying other "uinque" bags from normal retailers.
We cant deny that when a preceived trendy, classy person around you, who is always dresses well, speaks well ect carry a replica bag, often a time we will not question the aunthenticity of the bag because the person can carry it well even though it is a fake & when the market aunty carrys a real thing, we will stereotype most times that must be a fake.
All in all, carrying expensive bags does not make you a more classy, trendy nor better person, but well... of course it is a good to have.
OK, I knew I should've talked about designers' ethics earlier, fashionfoodadic. I feel alot about the lack of taste among us, trust me, but it's really such a subjective topic itself to begin with, that I won't push my views upon people, much less shame those who don't and may never get it![]()
I can't help but feel sad that it has come to this. It does seem extremely shallow. I really dread to be living in a place where I need to always be conscious that my outfit must match my bag (and match my shoe and my belt and goodness knows what) just in order not to be outcast. I will go mad if I have to constantly worry about my clothes and accessories, although I do agree it wasn't very tasteful of me to even dare to walk about outside with baby puke stains on my shirt!![]()
Anyway, in the first place, I think "taste" is something very subjective--one man's meat is another man's poison. Trends come and go, and there really is no accounting for what is a tasteful or distasteful combination. Is wearing a beautiful outfit and flipflops tasteful? Well, the designers seemed to think it is.At the end of the day, I still love my friends no matter what they are wearing, and I believe they do me too. Personally, I would never judge a person or discount her/him just because of their fashion sense, and I certainly hope nobody ever judges me by what they deemed to be me being outfitted in something that is "trashing beautiful fashion" (whatever that may be). I'm still advocating freedom of choice, and unless we're the ones doling out the money to them, then we have no right to dictate what they should or should not wear.
