    Default Caring for your bags

    Weird topic i know.

Just curious: How do you gals maintain your bags? I like to buy bags but i always end up some some which I seldom use and these tend to oxidise (at the metals handles/parts) if kept in the cabinet after sometimes.

And how do you tackle a stiff metal zip? I heard that waxing helps but what exactly is waxing and how does it work?

I keep my bags in my cupboard. On the shelves, I will put lots of those little packets of poisonous gel thingy where you find in shoe boxes to keep moisture out. Alternatively, can put the 'water hippo' thingy.

Bring it to a very reputable drycleaner? Used to temp at a high end drycleaners in London whilst at uni and I see all these ladies bringing in their Fendi, Gina, anya hindmarch bags etc for a good cleaning. But I don't suppose all drycleaners do them tho, only top end reputable ones..depending on the material of your bag as well i think. It will cost a bit because it must be cleaned by hand. They have those spraying machines where they can zap the chemicals onto the dirty spots and they spray gusts of air over it to dry it out immediately. i think if you clean it by yourself, it can get quite tricky, especially if you use water cos some materials will turn out blotchy with water marks!

    Hope that helps!

    hi lisss,

you can bring your bag to Mirrco shoe repair (tel:63397316) and they are located at byland building which is rather near to bugis village. you can call and ask for further details on their operation hrs just in case u made a fruitless trip there.

they are very experience in fixing all kind of bags and shoes and in press for many times due to their gd workmanship and reasonable price.

hope they can fix yr darling bag soon!

Can anyone recommend a good drycleaner for bags? I have a bag with fabric for the main body and leather for a bit of the upper portion and handles. It needs to be cleaned badly. A few drycleaners I have approached did not want to take it because of the leather as well.

    Where do u live?
Well I pass by this laundry shop sometimes near my place, can help u ask. I haven't seen that many laundry shops around. Or u can check the yellow pages, save u the hassle of going there only to find it doesn't accept.
    HTHs!

Default Any means to get rid of smells on bags made of fabric

I've got a bag that's been left aside for a while and somehow it starts to smell quite badly.

Is there any way to get rid of the smell on the fabric?

Looking for something that can spray onto it and get rid of smell.

I remember seeing some kind of advert that could spray and get rid of foul smell off furniture/sofas... maybe overseas. Any equivalent here?

    Any suggestions/help is much appreciated.

    Thanks

p/s I can't wash the bag, it will probably deform it.

    Hi baobei,

What i usually do is to sun the bag. Just leave it under the sun for 1-2 hours on a sunny day. And if once don't treat it of the stale smell (from staying in the cupbard for eons) then sun it yet again one another day.

I do this for bags i use once in blue moon and it usually works.

I once bought a travel backpacker haversack which is on discount but which has an odd sourish smell. I just keep sunning it until the odour goes away. Just remember not to sun it for 3-4 hours straight. This may ruin the colour. Just do it 1-2hours each time! HTHs!
